Can someone please explain to me how a church can be in schism, yet have valid sacraments? Is this true for the Eucharist as well?
Apostolic succession through Holy Orders allows for valid sacraments. That includes the seven sacraments (Holy Mysteries), however in some cases such as Eastern Orthodox penitential marriages would not be valid per the Catholic Church. Can someone please explain to me how a church can be in schism, yet have valid sacraments? Is this true for the Eucharist as well?
2089 Incredulity is the neglect of revealed truth or the willful refusal to assent to it. " Heresy is the obstinate post-baptismal denial of some truth which must be believed with divine and catholic faith, or it is likewise an obstinate doubt concerning the same; apostasy is the total repudiation of the Christian faith; schism is the refusal of submission to the Roman Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him." 11
If you want to put it in those terms . . . the RCC is in schism with the the same churches that are in schism with it . . .Can someone please explain to me how a church can be in schism, yet have valid sacraments? Is this true for the Eucharist as well?
not in most of the churches in schism with the RCC. For that matter, not in almost all of the churches in communion with the RCC . . .and the bride and groom are the real ministers of Holy Matrimony.
