Is it sinful to forge a signature even if one has permission from the person whose signature is being forged?
I’ve often wondered whether it is legal to endorse a spouse’s check if you are not the payee, and write For Deposit Only. I thought it was not legal even if the bank makes allowances for customers they know. Maybe this is a law more honored in the breach than the observance.Depends on what it is for.
I forged my son’s signatures on endorsing some checks for him when he was away at college; otherwise, they could not have been deposited into his account, since he was several states away and his bank account they had to go into was here. Not about to be mailing endorsed checks back and forth.
I also used to sign things with my husband’s name - endorsing checks, signing checks, etc. He knew I was doing these things.
Those are the only times I have forged signatures.
For those wondering, yes it’s against the law to forge someone’s signature for anything legal or banking, etc.Depends on what it is for.

That’s not quite right … or it’s incomplete, depending on which state’s or country’s law you have in mind. For those wondering, yes it’s against the law to forge someone’s signature for anything legal or banking, etc.
Of course not. People sign documents for me all the time. My secratary even has a rubber stamp with my signature on it.Is it sinful to forge a signature even if one has permission from the person whose signature is being forged?
And??? What ended up happening…did he complain?Years ago the wife of one of my coworkers regularly endorsed her husband’s check and deposited it. One time she wasn’t available and he signed it. The bank refused it because it wasn’t the signature they were used to.![]()
Not always. It’s only illegal if done with the intent to defraud. Here in Wisconsin, for example:For those wondering, yes it’s against the law to forge someone’s signature for anything legal or banking, etc.
