I was wondering if instead of saying the apostles creed and hail holy queen if I can pray a psalm instead? Would this be blasphemy?

I wasn’t sure if those two prayers were critical in saying the rosary. So I guess that means I can say the Jesus prayer to open and close it as we’ll.

Pray the Rosary any way you wish; just pray with reverence. I wish I had thought of that and I think I will do just that on occ. Thanks for the inspiration. MEB:thumbsup:

Actually, if you read the history of the rosary, you’ll discover that the earliest form was actually a psalter. A bead per psalm. I found it to be very interesting!

Although I pray it with the Apostles Creed and the Hail Holy Queen prayer, I really like your idea! I can definitely see the beauty of adding psalms into it and will probably implement your idea in the future!

you certainly can substitute anything you wish, this is a private devotion; however, upon substitution, you will not be praying the “Rosary” per say…

Of course, I don’t understand why one would do so… if you want variety in your prayer life there are other chaplets that use the Rosary beads, for example the Devine Mercy Chaplet (see my sig) and a nice collection here… (>note< I’ve only vetted part of these; however, I’ve read thru them all, to the best of my knowledge, they are in keeping with the faith) campus.udayton.edu/mary/resources/chaplet.html

Or pray the Liturgy of the Hours (( divineoffice.org/ ))

until I read the following, there was a lot about this devotion that I didn’t know, of course, I’m a convert; thus, a lot yet to learn 🙂
EWTN: HISTORY OF THE ROSARY

as for blasphemy… certainly not… taking the Lord’s name in vain… yes… saying a private prayer… I highly doubt. 🙂

Exactly. The rosary is the rosary. If you want to create a private devotion using beads do so.
But the rosary should be prayed as intended.
Blasphemy has nothing to do with what you’ve described.

No, but why couldn’t you just include them all in your Rosary, God Bless, Memaw

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut. The whole thing about the psalms is there so graphic in some parts it makes me uncomfortable. God bless!

If you want to pray the Psalms, why not do the Liturgy of the Hours, the official prayer of the Church?

I’m not sure how the liturgy of hours works. Can you explain it?

follow the link in my last post to the one of the online LOTH sites (imho, the best 🙂 )… they have a very easy to follow set of instructions, and each day’s readings are right there for you 🙂
(( divineoffice.org ))
you can also download their app or the IBreviary App (( ibreviary.org/en/ )) which I much prefer for your android device or apple smart-phone

Finally search here at CA… there are NUMEROUS threads covering this topic 😃

Thanks for the link but I’m still confused. Is the Liturgy something all the churches pray together?

I tell you praying two psalms and reciting the mysteries is a very powerful tool! It gets kind of confusing flipping through The Bible and juggling my Rosary book but it’s worth it! God bless.

The Liturgy of the Hours is the prayer of the entire Church. It is required that priests and the professed pray it daily. Individuals (the laity) are encouraged to pray as much of it as their situation in life allows.

Should you be interested in praying with the Church, take a look at:

www.divineoffice.org

I recommend beginning with Night Prayer.

As long as I have said, It beings with the the apostle creed, and than before the end we say
Hail Holy Queen, and than say some prays and than we make the sign off the Cross
As for saying psalms,I never heard if that, and I,am 65 yrs old,and I was taught the way I mention it above.
God Bless

No one knows the true history of the rosary. It is a private devotional. It seems to be a developed way of prayer and meditation and may even have been a form of prayers in the middle east-blessed mother excluded. So it, as a private devotion, it seems OK to add your own prayers such as the Psalms to the rosary, keeping in mind that it is a petition and an honor/respect to the Blessed Mother.
