Hello again my LDS friends. Remember me? I am the one who knows next to nothing regarding the LDS church. Although you have explained to me a fewe LDS beliefs in the past. thanks for that.

I have a question regarding the LDS beliefs.

I have heard from others and from web sites, granted these were probably anti-LDS, but the legit Mormon sites do not talk about what I am going to ask (or I could not find it).

The question is about Kolob, I have heard that it is the home world of LDS, the one closest to Gods home planet or something like that. What is the LDS teaching on this? Thanks in advance for you answers. Peace.

I dont know exactly-- my best friend is an ex-Mormon and she says that it is extremely difficult to get people to give you a straight answer about this one. When her family were Mormons (in her words, “before we knew the REAL Jesus”), no one told them about Kolob until they were several years in. The details arent really c lear, but I hope you can get someone to tell you! I’ll be checking back in to see as well!

Lots of threads have been started about Kolob. Here are at least three I found:

mormonism? & where is the star Kolob? How ludicrous is ludicrous???

Mormons: What About Kolob?

Does God live on Kolob?

Note especially that the last person to start a thread about Kolob was banned! So it looks like it is not a good omen to ask questions about Kolob. LOL! 😃

Thanks zerinus for the links, I will check them out. I started this thread about Kolob to learn something about LDS beliefs, not to pick a fight, not to discredit the LDS beliefs, not to poke fun, nor cause any hateful feelings. I just want to learn what LDS beliefs are regarding Kolob. I cant control others, however I would hope that all show respect in dialog. I am looking forward to other LDS (name removed by moderator)ut here. Peace.

Is this a legitimate Mormon site or an anti-Mormon site? is Kolob found in one of these Kingdoms :Celestial, Terrestrial, or Telestial.

zerinus, thanks for the links. I went to review them, however there is really not much information there other than the link to the Mormon site I asked you about. Most of it is anti-Mormon, anti-Mormon links, or unofficial Mormon sites. There was really no LDS presence or dialog to learn from. Can you or any other LDS posters explain the subject of kolob.

As a note, I am not thinking of becoming a Mormon, however, for my own edification I do want to learn and not be ignorant of certine claims about the LDS. As with anti-Catholic falsehoods regarding Catholic beliefs, lies need to be put to rest and the truth put to light. If this is too touchy of a subject that LDS posters do not want to have discussed here, just say so and I will drop it. Peace.

We believe that God revealed a lot of astronomical information to the ancient prophets and patriarchs like Abraham a small portion of which is recorded in one of our scriptural texts called the Book of Abraham, which is as follows:

Abraham 3:

1 And I, Abraham, had the Urim and Thummim, which the Lord my God had given unto me, in Ur of the Chaldees;
2 And I saw the stars, that they were very great, and that one of them was nearest unto the throne of God; and there were many great ones which were near unto it;
3 And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God: I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.
4 And the Lord said unto me, by the Urim and Thummim, that Kolob was after the manner of the Lord, according to its times and seasons in the revolutions thereof; that one revolution was a day unto the Lord, after his manner of reckoning, it being one thousand years according to the time appointed unto that whereon thou standest. This is the reckoning of the Lord’s time, according to the reckoning of Kolob.
5 And the Lord said unto me: The planet which is the lesser light, lesser than that which is to rule the day, even the night, is above or greater than that upon which thou standest in point of reckoning, for it moveth in order more slow; this is in order because it standeth above the earth upon which thou standest, therefore the reckoning of its time is not so many as to its number of days, and of months, and of years.
6 And the Lord said unto me: Now, Abraham, these two facts exist, behold thine eyes see it; it is given unto thee to know the times of reckoning, and the set time, yea, the set time of the earth upon which thou standest, and the set time of the greater light which is set to rule the day, and the set time of the lesser light which is set to rule the night.
7 Now the set time of the lesser light is a longer time as to its reckoning than the reckoning of the time of the earth upon which thou standest.
8 And where these two facts exist, there shall be another fact above them, that is, there shall be another planet whose reckoning of time shall be longer still;
9 And thus there shall be the reckoning of the time of one planet above another, until thou come nigh unto Kolob, which Kolob is after the reckoning of the Lord’s time; which Kolob is set nigh unto the throne of God, to govern all those planets which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.
10 And it is given unto thee to know the set time of all the stars that are set to give light, until thou come near unto the throne of God.
11 Thus I, Abraham, talked with the Lord, face to face, as one man talketh with another; and he told me of the works which his hands had made;
12 And he said unto me: My son, my son (and his hand was stretched out), behold I will show you all these. And he put his hand upon mine eyes, and I saw those things which his hands had made, which were many; and they multiplied before mine eyes, and I could not see the end thereof.
13 And he said unto me: This is Shinehah, which is the sun. And he said unto me: Kokob, which is star. And he said unto me: Olea, which is the moon. And he said unto me: Kokaubeam, which signifies stars, or all the great lights, which were in the firmament of heaven.
14 And it was in the night time when the Lord spake these words unto me: I will multiply thee, and thy seed after thee, like unto these; and if thou canst count the number of sands, so shall be the number of thy seeds.

If you study that passage, you will know as much about Kolob as any Mormon knows or is likely to know, apart from a few additional snippets of information found in Facsimile 2 of the Book of Abraham which you can see here. That is all there is to know. If you study those, you will know as much as any Mormon knows or can know. There is nothing that anyone can add to that. Anything added to that from any source, Mormon or non-Mormon, is speculation and not Mormon doctrine.

See my previous post. That tells you all that is known abut the subject.

Not at all. If your interest is genuine, which it appears to be, it is a perfectly legitimate question to ask, and Mormons will be willing to answer. But if it is something else, then I for one would not be interested.

is this the same Abraham found in the Bible?

Thank you for asking for information from an LDS member. I was raised Catholic and am now a member of the LDS church for the last 14years. I have served a mission…though you are the first person to ask this. It took some digging to find an easy to understand answer.
" Kolob means’the first creation’. It is the name of the planet “nearest to the celestial, or residence of God. It is the 1st government, the last pertaining to the measurment of time,…One day in Kolob is equal to a thousand years according to the measurment of the earth.” I got this from “Mormon Doctrine” by Bruce R McConkie

But…there is a song in our Hymnal that I thought better explains the"idea".

If Y ou Could Hie to Kolob
“If you could hie to Kolob, In the twinkling of an eye, And then continue onward, With that same speed to fly,Do you think that you could ever, Through all eternity, Find out the generation, Where God began to be?”
vs 3 " THe works of God continue and worlds and lives abound; Improvement and progression Have one eternal round. There is no end to matter, There is no end to space, There is no end to spirit; There is no end to race…"

My understanding is that “Kolob” is where God dwells. That a day to him may feel like a 1,000 years to us. It’s also used to refer to sometimes when speaking of the time after the 2nd coming.

I hope that this helps you. Kolob and the book of Abrham is often hard to understand…not unlike parts of Revelation. What one person understands may be different from another.

Yes, it is the same Abraham found in the Bible. Mormons have several additional books of scripture, besides the Bible. They include the Book of Mormon, another book called the Doctrine and Covenants, and a third book called the Pearl of Great Price. The Book of Abraham is part of the Pearl of Great Price.
Thanks zerinus and all, for the information. I think you guys have satisfactory answered my questions. Peace

Kolob is in the mormon scriptures. I have no idea how they could have missed it since the mormon scriptures are studied by the lds every sunday and also during the week for independent study. It is in the book of abraham. It is really strange to hear exmormons complain about not knowing something that was right in front of them the whole time.

3 And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God: I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.
