Question for LDS folks

How many people has BYU gotten rid of because they talked about something that made the LDS look wrong or bad? Come on now, you can do better than that.

Those people were exed because they were actively attacking the Church, not just because they were expressing differing opinions.

Have you ever seen an editorial piece from a member of the Deseret staff that disagrees with lds? No, and I’m sure you won’t. Why do you think that is? It is called knowing who signs your paycheck. If a staff writer wrote an article that put any type of doubt upon the lds, 1. It would never see print. 2. That person more than likely wouldn’t be there much longer.

My apologies, it was not my intent for this to disintegrate into an argument. I just wanted to learn what an LDS believes about a specific subject. It has been answered, thanks for the info. I will be dropping off this thread now. Peace

ok…this is getting interesting. I am not an expert on every detail of scripture. I have no problem of saying that I don’t know something. The original question that was posted was one I hadn’t thought of. I took it upon myself to study it out. Then I posted what I found and my understanding.

I love studying the Bible with people of different faiths. It helps me to see a scripture from a new perspective. Many times people hadn’t read a perticular book or had only “glanced” through it because they don’t understand it. Personaly I find Numbers very difficult to get through.

We have answered the original question that was posted. There is nothing to gain by doing this. Instead be Christians and agree to disagree on something. Or ask a question to start a new thread.

The reason for the problem in the first place is when JS “translated” the BoA there were a handful of people who understood Egyptian (from the Rosetta Stone). So, JS jumped in and took the bought parchments and began to translate them. They got the BoA from it.

Only problem is, the parchment has since been translated using the knowledge from the Rosetta stone and bad news for JS… it says nothing of the sort.

So, now the Mormons are trying to backfill. They have Mormon Egyptologists trying to say “Well, this parchment meant BoA 1000 before the Rosetta Stone”

That would be equvilent to 600 years from now, Shakespeare’s Hamlet is going to turn into a recipe for Beef Wellington.

That to some extent is true of all newspapers. Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation owns some of the greatest papers of the world, including the London Times and the Wall Street Journal. Do you find the editorial boards of these papers regularly attacking Rupert Murdoch or his corporations? And why should they? Why should somebody want to attack or criticize somebody just for its own sake? Does that mean they can’t be independent? Of course not.

Most newspapers have some kind of political leaning. Some are pro Republican and some are pro Democrat. Does that mean that they can’t be trusted to publish reliable news? I don’t think so. Have you read Salt Lake Tribune? Do you know how biased its editorial board is against the LDS Church? But it is a paper, and it does publish reliable news, and many Mormons buy it. The same is true of Deseret News. It is a Church owned paper, and there is no reason why its editorial board should want to attack the LDS Church just for its own sake, to satisfy you. Their job is to publish reliable news, and they do.

I know that you have dropped off the thread but I still feel compelled to answer this question. The problem has it was posted by one poster was that certain mormons who converted to mormonism did not know about Kolob and where shocked by the discovery. Also, it has been claimed by some catholics on this forum that the lds hide their doctrine and Kolob was one such example, as was heavenly mother and god having a tangible body of flesh and bone. I have demonstrated that all of these things are found in mormon study manuals and in the scriptures. Nothing is hidden.

It is not a question of not knowing that is the problem; rather it is a question of putting the blame where it belongs: with the disguntled exmember who actually believed that it was hidden.

No this is not true at all. Mormons will cover the book of abraham during the D&C discussion year in sunday school. At the moment mormons are studying the old testament and the book of moses in the Pearl of Great Price. The book of abraham may be covered along with the old testament in future lessons.
