Question for Muslim women

Hi Vickie, how do you respond if I were to say that Catholicism is made up of the decadent and archaic beliefs of the 4th century Romans? and not relevant or compatible with the “modern world.” I mean, if a religion’s roots are old, yours are older than the 7th century so what’s your fuss?

You were once a Christian, can’t you answer that?? The teachings of Jesus are filled with the wisdom of God and are timeless. They apply to any age.

Muslims want to do everything the way Muhammad did things. That is why I said you live in the 7th century. I see no wisdom in anything Muhammad said or did, but see a lot of superstitions and primitive things.

For instance, why do Muslim men have to grow a beard? Because Muhammad had one. Aren’t Muslim men supposed to urinate sitting down because he did so as well?

Here’s a dilly! A Muslim poster once mentioned that he had asked his Imam whether it was halal to watch TV since they didn’t exist in Muhammad’s time! Do you see what I mean?

What I believe is that the teachings of the Qur’an and Muhammad are the wisdom of God, and are timeless, and that they apply to any age.

Muhammad lived in the desert, and rode camels. I live in the city and drive in a car. Is this somehow not allowed in islam? A silly question! At the time of Muhammad they did not have electricity for lights in mosques–so should we not use electricity for light? Heat? Air conditioning? It’s really silly. This has nothing to do with Islam at all. 🙂

I think you are smarter than this. Not because Muhammad had one, but because he commanded it–and why? This is a command for the men, like women are commanded to cover. It serves as identification–that they are Muslim.

I think you and I can both agree that it’s silly, representing a very poor understanding of Islam.

All that has to do with Islam, even the fact that Muslims want to look different, it’s all part of the so-called “superiority” and “supremacy” of Islam!

Not really adding anything to the discussion, but I just want to give praise to all the female Muslims that have posted in this thread.

During my period of questioning religion, I myself looked into Islam and like to think I know a pretty large amount about it and you all have done a wonderful job answering the questions asked to you. Even though as this thread has gone on the “I’m right”, “No, I’m right” aspect of religious debate has started to peek it’s head out.

Why would God give the Quran to one person who was clearly a human and would make mistakes instead of give it to many people like in the bible? Why should this “one man” be trusted with all this information and no other man ever was trusted with a vast amount of info?

God gave the commandment “thou shall not kill” to Moses so why would God “change” his mind and let people kill in the Quran?

I think this merely comes from a misunderstanding of the nature of God.
There is nothing within Islam about women that bothers me. I live my life according to the Quran and the Sunnah, and there is no part of my deen which I reject or hold higher. I can’t say ‘this is more important than that’… I just try to live my life according to the Quran and the Sunnah and try to please my Lord and bring myself closer to him through ibadah (worship).

What is your opinion of verses like this?

“Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four” (Sura 4:3)

“and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.” (Sura 4:34)

Not trying to be rude just wondering.

God said that HE would preserve His word, that He would preserve the Qur’an. Is that not possible? Can God protect His Book from mistakes or not? He Can, and the Qur’an has been protected, while other texts have not been preserved because they are not final.

Now, the commandment given to Moses–in fact, the entire Torah was given to one man, Moses. The commandment is to not murder. And in the Qur’an it says that someone who kills an innocent person–it’s like he has killed ALL of mankind. And if he saves the life of one person, it’s like he has saved all of mankind.

If you read Deuteronomy, which I encourage you to do, you will find the death penalty prescribed for a number of offenses. If you continue reading the Old Testament you will find the Children of Israel being told to wipe out entire nations of people–men, women, children, even cattle!

People are now “allowed” to kill in Islam. They are allowed to fight if fighting is necessary, and sometimes war is necessary. The Qur’an regulates it. Killing innocent people is NEVER allowed in the Qur’an.
