When you get to the end of the rosary prayer, " May the Divine assistance remain always with us…in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit."

Do you stop there or do you add on the Memorare? “Remember most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known…”

So this is kind of poll question. What do you do?

Well, personally I add neither of these prayers. I just finish with “Hail, Holy Queen” and “O, God, whose Only Begotten Son”.

Hi esmac, when praying the Rosary alone I simply end with the Hail Holy Queen.

There are no hard-and-fast rules , it just depends on personal preference. A parish altar society may have a routine that differs from a parish down the road. In group settings you may even find differences in how the Rosary is begun.

I simply follow the more traditional method of beginning what the sign of the cross followed by the Apostles Creed then the Our Father, three Hail Marys, the doxology, and then begin the Mysteries.

God Bless

Same here, though I do add the Fatima Prayer at the end of each decade. 👍

Curious:
Where does this particular prayer originate? Never heard it used before.
Any info would be appreciated.

St. Bernard of Clairveaux, I believe, is where the memorare originated.

If you meant the first prayer the op mentioned, it goes like this “May the Divine assistance remain always with us, and may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen”

St. Bernard of Clairveaux
Interesting. Its never mentioned in websites, rosary books, or pamphlets.
Thank you for the info. 🙂
As another poster said, people have their favorite “trimmings”.

I still use the prayers we learned in Catholic elementary school - the Our Father, the Hail Mary, the Glory Be, and the Apostles’ Creed…no further additions.

Same with me. But I follow whatever podcast or EWTN Broadcast is at hand.

God bless.

yes same here. than i add a separate group of prayers to st michael, my guardian angel. the memorare prayer & a prayer to our lady of fatima and then the Holy Spirit

adds about an extra 5 or 7 minutes but i really feel i’ve “covered my bases” for the day

god bless you; stay close to the rosary you will never regret it. and Our Blessed Lady will’ve been so happy

I don’t follow any kind of rigid Rosary form when saying it alone. I simply pray the five (or more) decades.

Of course, the Rosary officially ends with the “Hail, Holy Queen”, but many many others prayers have been added over the centuries. You need not offer a single additional prayer, but you will find one that speaks to your spirit.

I love the ending of Fr. Groeschel’s(†) Rosaries, so that is what I use, inserting only the triple prayer (Our Father, Hail, Mary, Glory be) for the Holy Father’s intentions.

I’m pretty sure the rosary prayer with Mother Angelica on EWTN ends the rosary with the following concluding prayers -

"Hail Holy Queen…

Oh God, whose only begotten Son…

May the divine assistance remain always with us.

And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."

Every rosary I have prayed in a group setting such as a Lenten rosary prayer service at a parish has done the same.

I find that I am more inclined to pray the rosary for the sake of praying it when I don’t add the Memorare prayer and drag on with a myriad of standard issue petitions (peace on earth, the conversion of sinners, etc.) each time at the end of the prayer, although I generally do anyway about half the time.

I guess it’s a win win situation where I will be more inclined to pray the rosary more (less time to complete without the Memorare and petitions) and I will be putting complete trust for the Blessed Mother to intercede as she chooses.

I just wanted to get a feel for how many people add the additional concluding memorare prayer each time they finish praying the rosary and the consensus seems to be most do not.

I used to pray the let us pray prayer followed by Hail Holy Queen, Memorare, St. Michael prayer but one time I prayed the Mount Carmel prayer after the Memorare and it stuck.

I was taught in Catholic elementary school to end the Rosary after the Hail Holy Queen with the prayer for the Faithful Departed (Eternal rest, etc.).

Well, personally I add neither of these prayers. I just finish with “Hail, Holy Queen” and “O, God, whose Only Begotten Son”.
This is also what I do. Then, I usually finish with a St Michael prayer and petitioning the saints.
