I also hadn’t connected Jesus’s baptism by John the Baptist to the Mikvah before.Oh, wow, this is so great…I had heard about the mikvah, but I never made the connection before with John the Baptist! What that brought to mind is that at least once in Acts, some of John’s followers were given Christian baptism, & when I read this, I thought: Oh, that’s why they had to be baptized…Because, you know, it had always seemed odd to me, since baptism is done only once in a lifetime.
It also explains the full meaning of Jesus being baptized. He was fulfilling His duty as a religious Jew.
I am so glad this question was brought up. I have :yup: learned something again.
I didn’t know that. I can’t remember if I read that or not.I also hadn’t connected Jesus’s baptism by John the Baptist to the Mikvah before.
But I do know this, that in addition to the fulfilment of his life as a Jew, (just as he was presented at the Temple when 8 days old), his baptism by John also blessed the waters for baptisms by the Holy Spirit, which occurred when the Holy Spirit descended upon him in the form of a dove. His disciples then proceeded to go forth, baptising Christians. These baptisms, some of which were done before his resurrection, were valid baptisms.
John’s baptisms however were not valid, as they preceeded the desent of the Holy Spirit on the waters and were not done in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

If you haven’t discovered this already, you’ll find some Protestants who practically make a living out of declaring the Catholic Church the whore of Babylon (from Revelations), the pope the Antichrist, and Catholicism in general the work of Satan. Oh, and did I mention that all Catholics who actually believe the Catholic faith are going to hell?By the way, some Protestants have been harassing me on here with private messages. To those of you who are doing this (and you know who you are) PLEASE STOP. I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU.

What speaks to me is the fact that the Protestants on here have treated me far worse than the Catholics. The attitudes of the Catholics on here have been far more Christian than those of the Protestants. Also, I’m not an expert, but I’ve done enough research to know that the Catholic Church is the Church. Catholic teachings can be traced back to the apostles, but not Protestant teachings. It makes me wonder why anyone would be Protestant. Ignorance of Church history and Church doctrines, maybe? If you haven’t discovered this already, you’ll find some Protestants who practically make a living out of declaring the Catholic Church the whore of Babylon (from Revelations), the pope the Antichrist, and Catholicism in general the work of Satan. That’s true. G-d is all-powerful. He can certainly do it.One simple question is often all it takes for God to open the door and step into our lives.
