Why did Mohammed turn his back on a blind man? How could he justify doing this if he werea prophet of God? Mohammed claimed to be following in the footsteps of Jesus but how can this be so when these verses in the Koran show that he turned his back on a disabled person when Jesus never did that?

[1] (The Prophet) frowned and turned away,

[2] Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).

[3] But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?

[4] Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?

Wow, what a difference to this:

John 9:
1 As he went along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth.
2 His disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should have been born blind?’
3 ‘Neither he nor his parents sinned,’ Jesus answered, 'he was born blind so that the works of God might be revealed in him.
4 ‘As long as day lasts we must carry out the work of the one who sent me; the night will soon be here when no one can work.
5 As long as I am in the world I am the light of the world.’
6 Having said this, he spat on the ground, made a paste with the spittle, put this over the eyes of the blind man,
7 and said to him, ‘Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam’ (the name means ‘one who has been sent’). So he went off and washed and came back able to see.

Again, Jesus our Lord and saviour prevails over the false prophet muhammed

Why dose Allah create people and jinn for hell?
[7.173] Or you should say: Only our fathers associated others (with Allah) before, and we were an offspring after them: Wilt Thou then destroy us for what the vain doers did?
[7.174] And thus do We make clear the communications, and that haply they might return.
[7.175] And recite to them the narrative of him to whom We give Our communications, but he withdraws himself from them, so the Shaitan overtakes him, so he is of those who go astray.
[7.176] And if We had pleased, We would certainly have exalted him thereby; but he clung to the earth and followed his low desire, so his parable is as the parable of the dog; if you attack him he lolls out his tongue; and if you leave him alone he lolls out his tongue; this is the parable of the people who reject Our communications; therefore relate the narrative that they may reflect.
[7.177] Evil is the likeness of the people who reject Our communications and are unjust to their own souls.
[7.178] Whomsoever Allah guides, he is the one who follows the right way; and whomsoever He causes to err, these are the losers.
[7.179] And certainly We have created for hell many of the jinn and the men; they have hearts with which they do not understand, and they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear; they are as cattle, nay, they are in worse errors; these are the heedless ones.
[7.180] And Allah’s are the best names, therefore call on Him thereby, and leave alone those who violate the sanctity of His names; they shall be recompensed for what they did.
[7.181] And of those whom We have created are a people who guide with the truth and thereby they do justice.
[7.182] And (as to) those who reject Our communications, We draw them near (to destruction) by degrees from whence they know not.
[7.183] And I grant them respite; surely My scheme is effective.
[7.184] Do they not reflect that their companion has not unsoundness in mind; he is only a plain warner.
[7.185] Do they not consider the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever things Allah has created, and that may be their doom shall have drawn nigh; what announcement would they then believe in after this?
[7.186] Whomsoever Allah causes to err, there is no guide for him; and He leaves them alone in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on.
[32.6] This is the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Mighty the Merciful,
[32.7] Who made good everything that He has created, and He began the creation of man from dust.
[32.8] Then He made his progeny of an extract, of water held in light estimation.
[32.9] Then He made him complete and breathed into him of His spirit, and made for you the ears and the eyes and the hearts; little is it that you give thanks.
[32.10] And they say: What! when we have become lost in the earth, shall we then certainly be in a new creation? Nay! they are disbelievers in the meeting of their Lord.
[32.11] Say: The angel of death who is given charge of you shall cause you to die, then to your Lord you shall be brought back.
[32.12] And could you but see when the guilty shall hang down their heads before their Lord: Our Lord! we have seen and we have heard, therefore send us back, we will do good; surely (now) we are certain.
[32.13] And if We had pleased We would certainly have given to every soul its guidance, but the word (which had gone forth) from Me was just: I will certainly fill hell with the jinn and men together.
[32.14] So taste, because you neglected the meeting of this day of yours; surely We forsake you; and taste the abiding chastisement for what you did.
[32.15] Only they believe in Our communications who, when they are reminded of them, fall down making obeisance and celebrate the praise of their Lord, and they are not proud.
[32.16] Their sides draw away from (their) beds, they call upon their Lord in fear and in hope, and they spend (benevolently) out of what We have given them.
[32.17] So no soul knows what is hidden for them of that which will refresh the eyes; a reward for what they did.
[32.18] Is he then who is a believer like him who is a transgressor? They are not equal.

I know I was absolutely astonished when I saw this I could not believe it. I had no idea this was in the Koran until someone pointed it out to me. On a side note the verses you quoted here are the very first thing I heard in the Gospel and that’s what led me into the Catholic Church because at that moment I understood that my disability did not mean that I was rejected by God and it was the first time in my life that I understood my disability was not my fault! I still remember it as if it was yesterday and I cannot believe that I almost converted to Islam before I was Catholic or Christian for that matter especially after reading these passages in the Koran. Yikes!
Thank you God and St. Michael for protecting me in battle hallelujah!

This sura reprimands Muhammad for not paying attention to a poor blind man and pursuing a rich delegation of the Quraish chiefs trying to convert them to Islam. Reprimanding a prophet in a sacred text is unusual, yet according to Sunni scholars, it was Muhammad being reprimanded and not another figure.

The Blind man however earned a mention in the Qur’an, although not by name. His name is Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum and then God goes on reminding the prophet that the poor blind man might have gained some benefit. God then exclaims why those addressed were pursuing people who considered themselves not in need, including the need of assistance, yet the prophet attended to them and ignored the blind man.

most probably he made a “mistake” and Allah reprimanded him after all Allah asks him to repent his wrong-doings, of course considered small mistakes.

yes, its amazing how many ‘small’ other mistakes muhammed had did. 😉

Why did Mohammed turn his back on a blind man?
It was explained to you already. If u are not satisfied , sorry we have no new answer for u .

For those who don’t know : Prophet was discussing about Islam with tribal leaders. He thought if one leader accepts Islam , the whole group will follow him . So , during the discussion when a man interrupted him more than once, Prophet just frawned without scolding / shouting .

God corrected his this mistake . Guidance come from God only. So , Prophet should have talked to that person who willingly came to know about Islam rather than those leaders who were not interested about the Truth.

Prophet did not want money or other things in exchange of preaching of oneness of God. His answer of this kind of proposal was : if they were to put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand to stop me from preaching Islam, I would never stop. I will keep preaching until Allah makes Islam prevail or I die."

Its easy to say that when you ALREADY have money, power and everything else that comes with it…🤷

NO you answered my question about disabled people praying you did not ever really explain the meaning of these passages all you did was throw accusations at people and said they misinterpreted the Koran.
Yeah I started a new thread so we could discuss this so what I think it’s a topic worth discussing since so few people are aware of this issue or that these passages appear in the Koran. Oh yeah I forgot that’s right disabilities are not discussed in Islam so it is not a surprise that you are objecting to this discussion .

by the way folks in fairness this is what Muslim woman is referring to when she says my question has already been answered. I had another thread asking about disabled Muslims and how they pray which is how I found out about these passages.
Welcome back Aydan, 🙂

Sorry to tell you, but Muhammed didn’t like disabled people, indeed Muhammed wanted strong men to fight not disabled people, that is why there are many verses in Quran about the reward of Jihad, and that is why there is no direct instructions for disabled people prayer, the current workaround is found by Muslim clerics not Muhammed.

You might ask what is my proof for that, its the Quran itself, in (Quran 80:1-2) Muhammed frowned and turned away from a disabled blind man.
And it seems after doing that he got criticized by his own tribe because that blind man was the cousin of his first wife “Kadija”, so he revealed that verse to calm his tribe.

Alkurtubi commentary:

The more information that I hear about Mohammad the more convince I am that he is not a prophet of God.

This is in stark contrast to Jesus - who had compassion for the lepers, the blind, the paralytics and the possessed.
Christians may not realise it but when they start quoting the Qur’an and the ahadith as “proof” of something, then it really is a sign of acceptance of the truth of Islam.

There is nothing wrong with this folks, Muslims too accept that the Bible contains profound truths.

The difference here is that Muslims know where to draw the line between truth and falsehood whereas Christians really do not have this capability… especially since they themselves have trouble believing significant portions of their own Bible.
why thank you Siam 🙂 I’ve been around I just spend most of my time in the prayer intentions section you ought to come visit sometime.🙂
Wow that verse from the Koran says it all.

Please , don’t spread lies. Prophet (p) was talking to several tribal leaders. He thought if leaders becomes Muslims , the whole tribes will also accept Islam . So , when the blind man came & interrupted in middle of the discussion , Prophet did not even scolded him , just frowned. God corrected his this little mistake .

I guess , u know the context of that verse/ chapter . Do u really think it means Prophet didn’t like disabled people ?
if you think Sam is being dishonest then please tell your Muslim friends to stop saying Christians are lying about the Bible. On the contrary I think Sam understands the Koran better than most people here because he speaks Arabic so he can read it and what Muslims considered to be its purest form and its original language. Yeah based on what I’ve seen I have to agree with Sam. It goes back to my original question if this is not true then why aren’t people with disabilities discussed on a mainstream Islamic web sites or sites written for converts?
wrong we quote it because we are discussing Muslim beliefs not because we believe the Koran is true I certainly don’t tink that and I read it.

Nowadays he could have been used as a suicide bomber. I am not writing this to be funny either. Too many suicide bombers are people with some problem and then we hear of a muslim woman having women raped so they become suicide bombers to regain some dignity for their families. Al Qaeda was doing the same to men - raping them so they would become suicide bombers.

this is really just one nasty religion. The base teachings are the problem when people can do these things for their God.

And when we use the Quran and hadiths to ‘prove’ something - it is usually to prove that Muhammad said and did some pretty nasty things in his life.

Here is something about the difference between Jesus and Muhammad concerning children.

Liar, Liar Cults on fire
compare Jesus with mohammed:
Jesus - Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Luke 16:18

I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 18:24 also Mark 9:37, Matthew 11:25.

Muhammad’s life in the hadith - Dawud, narrated As-Saburah (also recorded by Ahmand and al-Hakim. Al-Syuti has given in a notation signifying that it is authentic.
Al-Albani has graded it hasan. Al-Albani, Sahih Al-Jami, vol.2, p. 1021.)

The prophet said: Order your children to pray at the age of seven. And beat them if they do not do so by the age of ten. And separate them in their bedding.

Another prisoner Uqba Ibn Abi Muait was decapitated in front of the prophet. Before being killed the prisoner cried out pitifully “o prophet, who will look after my children if I should die?”

The ‘great prophet of the religion of peace’ coldly spat out “HELLFIRE”, as the blade came down and spattered his clothese with Uqra’s blood. (Incident at the well of Badr, account by D.S.Margoliouth in his book ‘muhammad and the Rise of islam’.

I had another thread asking about disabled Muslims and how they pray which is how I found out about these passages.
Also add these English sources:

Islamic source #1:
“’*Abdullaah Ibn Umm Maktoom may Allaah be pleased with him was the cousin of Khadeejah Bint Khuwaylid, Mother of the Believers”

"While the Prophet, was thus engaged, 'Abdullaah Ibn Umm Maktoom may Allaah be pleased with him came up and asked him to read a verse from the Quran. “O Messenger of Allaah,” he said, "teach me from what Allaah has taught you.

The Prophet, frowned and turned away from him. He, turned his attention instead to the prestigious group of Quraysh, hoping that they would become Muslims and that by their acceptance of Islam they would bring greatness to the religion of Allaah and strengthen his mission.*"

Islamic source #2:
"*This is an early Makkan Surah, and is connected with an incident which reflects the highest honor on the Prophet’s sincerity in the Revelations that were vouchsafed to him even if they seemed to reprove him for some natural and human zeal that led him to a false step in his mission according to his own high standards.

He was once deeply and earnestly engaged in trying to explain the Holy Qur’an to Pagan Quraysh leaders, when he was interrupted by a blind man, 'Abd Allah ibn Umm Maktum, one who was also poor, so that no one took any notice of him. He wanted to learn the Qur’an. The Holy Prophet naturally disliked the interruption and showed impatience. Perhaps the poor man’s feelings were hurt.*"

" i find the bold part a very human way of thinking.

Joining the religion brings greatness and strength to Muhammad’s religion?. Of course, he was interested in wealthy tribes more than a poor man who couldn’t bring “greatness” to his religion…good politics but he knew the implications of what he did and corrected his misbehaviour, just as he corrected his scandalous desire for a married woman by saying Allah reprimanded him for concealing it.

Now, let’s compare this to this week’s Gospel reading
Mk 1:40-45
A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said,
“If you wish, you can make me clean.”
Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand,
touched him, and said to him,
“I do will it. Be made clean.”
The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.
Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once.
He said to him, “See that you tell no one anything,
but go, show yourself to the priest
and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed;
that will be proof for them.”
The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter.
He spread the report abroad
so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly.
He remained outside in deserted places,
and people kept coming to him from everywhere.

Why did Mohammed turn his back on a blind man? How could he justify doing this if he werea prophet of God? Mohammed claimed to be following in the footsteps of Jesus but how can this be so when these verses in the Koran show that he turned his back on a disabled person when Jesus never did that?

[4] Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?
The Prophet (pbuh) was trying to teach Islam to a person of wealth and influence. The idea is that if you can bring a person of influence to your side, many others will follow. The action of the Prophet pbuh in this instance was incorrect however–and so the Prophet pbuh was reprimanded in the Qur’an.

Proof that the Qur’an is from Allah, and not made up by Muhammad–why would he preserve his mistake like this for all posterity?

ohhhhhhhhhhh i get it, so muhammad sinned? i get it.
Oh, i thought prophets dont sin in islam…
Shows what you know, then, doesn’t it?

I can’t count how many times people ask the question about prophets sinning in Islam and I always give the same answer–that God protected them from major and not minor sins, and so they do at times make mistakes. This is an example of exactly that.

Subhanallah–is it not amazing how firmly they hold their hands over their ears, to ignore the truth?

What you think proves the Quran is from Allah actually saves Muhammad’s face for the very bad behaviour he did in favour of wealth and power.
