Specifically those kinds which are objects. Holy water, scapular, blessed medal, etc…
[Edit: as I continue to read, it appears the better word for these things are devotional objects, and sacramentals refers more to the rites of blessing that go into them]
As far as I understand, these sacramentals do not give us grace on their own power-- that would be magic. They help us to be more receptive to grace, I suppose, and maybe even warrant greater graces for us by the devotion with which we use them. Such that, one who used them carelessly would most likely receive no benefit (lest it be God’s intent to surprise them and thus convert them). Correct me here if I am wrong.
My question is, do they protect us from evil regardless of the disposition of the one in possession of them? Such that, one who does not necessarily have faith but treats them as magic charms will still receive some protection against demonic influence, regardless of their lack of faith?
Thanks. All the better if you can provide any kind of reference, but any (name removed by moderator)ut is appreciated.
