Question relating to Eastern Orthodox Church

While most Orthodox jurisdictions have moved towards the more frequent communion end of the spectrum these days, it doesn’t always translate over into advice on how often to confess, especially in larger parishes. In other words, advice on when to go to confession often reflects a time when one didn’t commune frequently. Confessors are few and far between in the Orthodox world. Not every priest can hear confessions, parishes are also sparse in certain areas of the world, and we also have don’t have the Catholic distinction between mortal and venial sins. Some jurisdictions are much more strict when it comes to confession before communion (e.g. the ROCOR for sure and a lot of OCA parishes).

My dad always made us stay until the priest walked out and the choir finished.
Lol…my mom did that too!
We had to say our prayers after Holy Communion and when the priest left the sacristy then we left church.

We always waited for the priest.

We also waited for the recessional hymn to finish.

Until the performance aspect took over, and they’d launch several more verses after the priest left. Then we started leaving when the verse ended after the priest recessed.

Sorry what do you mean?
In Orthodox world, some jurisdictions need Priest to be given authority to hear Confessions before they do. Not all Priests automatically receive it. There is also piece of clerical clothing those Priests are given to symbolise they can hear Confessions (and hence those without this clothing can’t hear Confessions).

Only Jurisdiction I know practices this is Orthodox Church of Antioch. But there may be others.

Wow, I didn’t know that. I thought all priests had the faculty to hear confessions.
