Just my two cents: The Bible has been brutally picked apart by scholars of every kind, yet Christians all over the world have kept their cool and know in their hearts that whatever such “scholars” throw at them, they will still love their faith. Sadly, i have noticed the West (especially) has carefully avoided doing the same with the Qu’ran. With the exception of the German scientists (see my links in previous post). When will scholars grow a backbone to tell devout Muslims that Mohammed may not have actually written every word of the Qu’ran straight from the mouth of the angel Gabriel; or that the houris they have been anticipating in heaven are in fact white grapes; or that the Qu’ran is a product of ancient plagiarism? How long can Muslims use threat, to intimidate scholars and thwart the search for truth? Are they going to run to the UN to complain everytime a non-Muslim scholar tries to dig into Islam’s past?

A religion ceases to be a religion if you are afraid of the truth, if you are weak in faith. When fear takes over, all your prophets and revered people in your religious texts would have lost its self respect.
What is the reason that Muhammad will not have the revelation written down exactly. He had the scribes. Jesus did not dictate or have any scribe nor had anything written in his life time. Please come to the truth and admit the position of bible NT compared to the Quran.

It is written in the Quran that Muhammad told everything that he received from Allah. It wa swritten in the bible OT (DEut 18:18) “That Prophet, the like of Moses” will tell all that is put in his mouth. Any one who will not listen to him, God will take an account of him. That was Muhammad.
In the bible NT also it says about the good news of the parclete that “He will lead you to all truth.” Please tell me that holy ghost is a “He”? Surely not.
There is news in the OT from Moses about the coming of Muhammad (The like of Moses). There is news in the NT from Jesus about the coming of Ahmad (The like of Jesus).

Both prophets Moses and Jesus had told about the coming of a prophet a like of them. Our prophet was a copy of Jesus in Makkah and suffered hardship, persecution, so much that his followers had to run away for shelter to a nearby christian country.

Our Prophet was a copy of Moses in Madinah. He guided and commanded his followers very well.

You only have to believe in Muhammad like you believe in Moses and Jesus and God. It is not so difficult or impossible.

… You only have to believe in Muhammad like you believe in Moses and Jesus and God. It is not so difficult or impossible.
Like we believe in Jesus? Does that me we if we believe in Muhammad we can continue to believe that Jesus died on the cross? No! So, don’t use the credibility we have for Jesus to promote Muhammad.

You only have to believe in Muhammad like you believe in Moses and Jesus and God. It is not so difficult or impossible.
But The Bible warned us of false prophets before Muhammad in 600 years:

(Matthew 24:11):
And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”

(1 John 4:1):
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

(Matthew 7:15-16):
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

(2 Pet 2:1-3):
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them–bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

(John 16:1-4):
All this I have told you so that you will not go astray. They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you. I did not tell you this at first because I was with you.

(Revelation 22:13):
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

(Revelation 16:13):
Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

(Revelation 19:20):
But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image

(Revelation 20:10):
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

This does not mean that the Koran is more reliable than the NT, for although Jesus did not dictate His teachings, He established a Church and taught His Gospels to His apostles and disciples. The notion of the Gospel (Injeel) in your Koran is ironically affected by the way Christians traditionally view and conceptualise their Scripture. This is why the Koran is full of narratives about Jesus rather than examples of direct revelation!

First, in order to refute your assertion and prove that the promise identifies “the prophet” as an Israelite, we should see what the word “brethren” refers to in Deuteronomy:

Deuteronomy 17: 14-15
When thou art come into the land, which the Lord thy God will give thee, and possessest it, and shalt say: I will set a king over me, as all nations have that are round about: Thou shalt set him whom the Lord thy God shall choose out of the number of thy brethren. Thou mayst not make **a man of another nation king, that is not thy brother.
**
Deuteronomy 18:1-2
The priests and Levites, and all that are of the same tribe, shall have no part nor inheritance with the rest of Israel, because they shall eat the sacrifices of the Lord, and his oblations, And they shall receive nothing else of the possession of their brethren.

Both of the verses quoted above mean that the promised prophet must be an Israelite, for the word brethren pertains to the same members of the Israelite community and the brotherhood of other nations is overtly denied.

Second, there is no verse in Deuteronomy 18 that highlights the racial brotherhood between Israelites and Ishmaelites. Neither Moses nor God makes an assocaition between the promised prophet and Ishmael’s descendants.

Third, God in the Torah recurrently singles out Israel as the only chosen nation and thus slams the door on any possible association between Ishmaelites and Israelites. For the God of Moses there are two nations: Israel and “others” (including Ishmaelites).

Fourth, while interpreting the verse in question, Muslims restrict the notion of brotherhood to racial affiliation disregarding the primary significance of monotheism for the God of Torah. What they fail to see is that it is impossible for God to identify a pagan nation as brothers of His elected Israel. Moses, who slays true Israelites that choose idolatry, cannot have designated pagan Ishmaelites as his brothers. Consequently, it is impossible for Arabs, who were idolaters before Islam like Mohammad himself, to be the brethren from among whom the prophet would be sent.

There is news in the NT from Jesus about the coming of Ahmad (The like of Jesus).
I cannot find anyone (animate or inanimate) in the NT with the name “Ahmad”. Could you please cite the verses that allegedly mention that person named Ahmad???

Strikingly, the authors of the Koran made a big mistake while putting in Issa’s mouth the following sentence:

"O Children of Israel! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who cometh after me, whose name is Ahmad (the Praised One). Surah 61:6

According to some verses of your Koran, Mohammad was the first messenger sent to Arabs:

Surah 28: 46 And thou was not beside the Mount when We did call; but (the knowledge of it is) a mercy from thy Lord that thou mayst warn a folk unto whom no warner came before thee, that haply they may give heed.

Since Issa predicted that Ahmad would be sent to the Children of Israel and Mohammad was sent to the Arabs (not Jews!), it is impossible for Ahmad and Mohammad to be the same person! Who is that Ahmad then? Dear planten, even you could be that promised prophet in your Koran. :rotfl:
Both prophets Moses and Jesus had told about the coming of a prophet a like of them. Our prophet was a copy of Jesus in Makkah and suffered hardship, persecution, so much that his followers had to run away for shelter to a nearby christian country.
Why the need to relegate the supposed similarity between Jesus and Mohammad to persecution? When did Jesus organise His followers as bandits to attack His adversaries? When did Jesus invade Jerusalem and forbid Jews from entering the Temple? I cannot see any similarity between Jesus and Mohammad. Thus, your presumption is easily rebutted.
Our Prophet was a copy of Moses in Madinah. He guided and commanded his followers very well.
ROTFL Only that? Such a general and far-fetched similarity suffices to convince you? I will say nothing so as to let you entertain yourself.
You only have to believe in Muhammad like you believe in Moses and Jesus and God. It is not so difficult or impossible.
It is not difficult or impossible to believe in Mohammad, but unreasonable and unfair. 🙂

Dear planten, Jesus’ disciples were far better at oral tradition compared to Mohammad’s scribes. Lets be truthful here - By the time Mohammad’s scribes wrote the Qu’ran, the Bible was already in development. You have not heard of the Peshitta Bible, have you? It came into being somewhere in the 2nd century (OT) and somewhere along the 5th century (NT). That’s still hundreds of years before Mohammad and his scribes decided to scribble their own misinformed, uneducated version of the Bible aptly named the Qu’ran.

Here’s what i think: Mohammad probably wanted his own version of God’s salvation but could not provide biblical proof or evidence of his people’s lineage. So he did what any plagiarist would do. Copy a religion’s teaching and make it his own. But he also needed to convince others that his teaching had validity. So to convince Jews he did the most obvious thing - he knew Moses climbed a mountain and received a revelation from God. Mohammad did something similar (but he entered a cave). He also knew he had to convince the Christians. Then eureka! He knew Gabriel was an important angel in Christianity. Mohammad knew Christians would listen to him if he mentioned Gabriel (as did Waraqa ibn Nawfal (a gnostic “Christian”)]. It is also well known that prior to his “revelation”, Mohammad spent a great number of years as a young boy traveling with caravans and intermingling with Syriac Christian monks. Fantasy mixed with fiction and fact = religious plagiarism.
In the bible NT also it says about the good news of the parclete that “He will lead you to all truth.” Please tell me that holy ghost is a “He”? Surely not.
Why not? God can be anything He wants. Islam doesn’t teach its members that God can be capable of anything - including being God incarnate. Instead it teaches them to be submissive and not question.

You know, scholars still do not buy that story. Except perhaps Islamic sympathizers like Karen Armstrong and maybe the Discovery Channel.

You are right about one thing. Mohammad was a copycat.
Our Prophet was a copy of Moses in Madinah. He guided and commanded his followers very well.
Yup. What i said above.
You only have to believe in Muhammad like you believe in Moses and Jesus and God. It is not so difficult or impossible.
Did Mohammad die for my sins? No, if i became a Muslim, i’d only remember him as the person who committed atrocities and genocide in “God’s” name.

Also planten, why is it that the Yemeni government is refusing scholars to examine the ancient Qu’ranic texts? What are they so fearful of, if Islam has nothing to hide?

I heard Scott Hahn talking about his experience with attempting to debate a Muslim scholar on the Trinity.
He said something I admttedly had never thought of. The Muslim scholar took great umbrage at Dr Hahn when he spoke about God as our Father and Christ as the son of God.
Now, it did not surprise me that the Muslims do not believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God.
What surprised me was that Muslims are offended by the concept of God as our loving Father. As I understood from Dr. Hahn, Muslims believe that Allah is a Master and they are his slaves. That does not mean that he is not merciful sometimes, or loving, or just. But they arej ust not loved by Allah as Christians know God our Father’s love.
The example given by the Muslim was about his dog. The Scholar said he loved his dog very much. But that he was moving to a place that did not accept pets. But rather than giving his dog away he was chosing to have his dog put down. It was his property after all.
I was of course appalled at this.
God being our Father implies the love of a parent for a child. And a loving parent will do anything to try to help their child. But a loving parent would never treat a child as a slave. We know this from the story of the prodigal son. We are certain of it when we know Christ died for our sins.
So, my question is why on earth would one choose to worship a god such as Allah who considers you a slave and posession when the true God and father of us all reaches out His hand to all who will take it and embraces us as a child returned to Him??

I was shocked when I watched it yesterday and heard that story… I suppose the Muslim scholars are not like that on this side of the ocean? Or maybe just a few of them (NOT like that, I mean…) I certainly don’t want my God to be just a chief military and a master with a right of life and death over His slave…
Thanks be to God that He IS Who He IS!
