The Catholic Church assembled the scriptures, decided which would canonized, translated the scriptures and spent centuries copying them in the monasteries and interpreting them. So how can the Bible be infallible if the Church responsible for it is corrupt? First of all, the Catholic Church is not the only organization responsible for the Bible. After all, the Jewish people are the ones that have kept most of the OT alive and well. Secondly, I really recommend the book Beyond Belief to Convictions by Josh McDowell and Bob Hostetler… the part on the Bible.
For what reason do you think that the Bible is infallible or the only authority? Same section of the same book lol. It will explain it so much better than I can.
*Why does it bother Protestants that don’t believe Christ is physically present in the Eucharist when the Church tells them it they shouldn’t receive? * I am not entrirely sure I understand this question. Why does it bother me that I cannot receive the Eucharist when I attend the Catholic Church? It doesn’t. So I guess this question doesn’t really apply to me.
How come some evangelical Protestants object so strongly to the Church’s position on birth control? I have no problem whatsoever with the Church’s stance on birth control, with the possible exception of condoms. I have yet to really read about the differences in Catholic belief between NFP and the use of condoms… so I am not going to judge that yet. In fact, I think most Protestants are just ignorant about how awesome NFP is, and how bad artificial contraception can be. Then again, the quiverful movement (think the Duggar family) is a Protestant (allbeit Baptist) movement for the most part, so maybe not all Protestants are ignorant.
*and on celibacy for Latin Rite priests? * I have no problem with Priests being celibate if they choose to be. I just think the Catholic Church would have a lot of men who would be great priests who are also husbands and fathers. That said, it would require a ten percent tithe from people, because usually if you have a Pastor with a family, you need two pastors in order to fully take care of the flock.
Why get upset about what the Church teaches at all if it isn’t your church? I attend a Catholic Church with my future (Catholic) husband. Plus it is the closest Church to my home. Plus I have a deep respect for the Church, so I don’t really get upset with it’s beliefs, they are just different from mine.
