Did anyone watch the Undercover Boss episode where the Hooters CEO was on and went ‘undercover’ to some of the restaurants? The manager made them tighten their shirts, lift and squeeze their breasts, he would check how they looked when they bent over, he would make them do body shots off each others cleavage…

It was appalling. The way women are treated at these places is just wrong. The reason they are hired is because of how they look in tight Hooters shirts. They’re all clueless college girls with NO common sense or heads enough to know when they are being treated like street trollops.

They’re dressed like cheerleaders??? I was a cheerleader freshman year in HS and if we dressed like that we would have been sent home and/or kicked off the squad. I’ve never seen cheerleaders with shirts that tight.

The whole premise of Hooters, their whole marketing angle is come and eat food, watch sports, and enjoy the waitresses…hoots:rolleyes: Check out what you see when you go to their website and click on ‘want to be a Hooters Girl’ and tell me there isn’t something very wrong with the way this company operates.

There are plenty of places to get chicken wings that leave out all that nonsense. I personally don’t see the dilemma really. It’s not as if you’re starving and Hooters is the only place you can get food from. Just go somewhere else. Making such a miniscule sacrifice is really nothing to fret over.

Since you’re in Chicago, I highly recommend to you Buffalo Joe’s for wings. They are far and away better than Hooters could ever hope to be. 👍 You can get some waffle fries and a Cheddar Merkt’s burger while you’re there:thumbsup:

*Professional *Sports Cheerleaders… absolutely… ever been to an NBA or NFL game? 🤷 People aren’t going to Hooters to watch High School sports - they’re there to watch professional sports…

Tacky, sure… but I still don’t think the “purpose” of going to restaurants like that is solely for the girls…

You live in Chicago, Center of the Food Universe, and you can’t do any better than Hooters?

For shame!

A zillion great places to eat up there–pick any one of them instead.
:rotfl:

I agree with shanny :). I saw the previews for that episode and I think that reflects the reasons I would not send my $ their way.

I’m with you Shannyk.

I don’t care what you say, these places are there purely to fulfill and inspire lustful temptation. It actually makes me sick. I’m a 20 year old dude, and I have never been to a strip bar or a hooters.

I just don’t understand how these places are accepted?! Young girls, while I appreciate some love the attention (for the wrong reasons mind you), are being exploited so equally young guys (and older guys) can have a look and a flirt. It’s horrible. It really gets my blood boiling! I have never been into these kinds of things. Swimsuit magazines, hooters, the usual. Because I know exactly what its there for. And I think gee… that girl is someone’s daughter! and someone’s future wife! Nevermind the fact that she is herself and deserves better, whether she knows it/believes it/wants it or not.

I don’t think all who go there are for the women, sure. But the majority are. And it is marketed as a place to look at girls in skimpy outfits. It baffles me. I might sound like a feminist haha. In actual fact, im probably anti-feminism here because the feminists I know would say “She can dress as she likes she is using her sexuality to get you pathetic men into giving her money” etc.

As a Catholic man, and as a way of upholding my aspirations to be a gentlemen, I would stay away from this place. That doesn’t mean I haven’t struggled with lust or anything, I think everyman does, but in the last year and specifically 3 months I have totally had a new lease on life regarding the exploitation of sexuality in our modern culture, and hooters is one example.

I can’t stand the sexualisation of everything, it really drives me insane

Sorry, rant over. I hope I don’t get accusations of a want-but-cant-have thing going on in my mind, hence my contempt towards it etc (kind of like a Nietzsche ressentiment attitude). That isn’t what its about because to put it bluntly, the Lord blessed me with looks. And of course, he has blessed others. Modesty is an attractive thing. I’ve seen girls that I thought were gorgeous but the next day I see them wearing a skirt that hardly covers their bum and a push up bra spilling out their top and I’m immediately turned off. I dunno, I’m just so against it 🤷

My friends suggested we get take-out from Hooter’s Restaurant which would be, on the one hand, good because I don’t have to be in that type of environment with scantily-clad women around everywhere…call, go in, get food, leave. But would it be wrong to get food from them (even take-out) since it might constitute funding immorality?
Ok I’m a women and I would never patronize a establishment that used women and reduced them to being nothing more then a sex object and even advertised such. To me giving that organization any money at all would be against all Christian morals. I take the hard line on this seeing what a sex saturated society we live in and how lightly most trangressions of this kind are taken. I feel the same way about magazines that show half naked women in their adds or on their covers and I just don’t buy any of them. That said we all have free will and I guess it’s basically up to your conscience.

Read the employee handbook and what the women who work at Hooters have to sign in order to work there.

thesmokinggun.com/archive/0915051hooters1.html

My job duties require I wear the designated Hooters Girl uniform.
My job duties require that I interact with and entertain the customers.
The Hooters concept is based on female sex appeal and the work environment is one in which joking and entertaining conversations are commonplace.
I do not find my job duties, uniform requirements, or work environment to be offensive, intimidating, hostile, or unwelcome.

I really don’t like the idea of paying someone to flirt with me so I would never go there.

Do they hire men to waitress there? How about older woman? Do they hire woman who are not endowed with large …?
I’d rather see a friendly smile when I order my food not someone’s cleavage.

Do they exploit women?..you bet. Would I patronize there?.. no way.

I didn’t work for Hooters, but in college I worked for a similar place (coffee shop where the women wore bikinis) . My main source of income was my 2 natural gifts from God (as I called them). Even my ultra-conservative Catholic mom said, “if a man wants to pay to see them, that’s decision.” My now ex-boyfriend loved it that was ogled by the men (even though I thought I was ugly). The attention was nice, I would so pay for that attention now.

The joke was that the coffee stunk. 😃

Can a moderator delete this thread now? I think I get the point.

This seems pretty extreme to me. What you are saying is that we should think twice about watching something like Schindler’s List.

What I SAID was to think twice, I never suggested not to go to Schindler’s List, or a movie with nudity that is clearly part of the story and not just as an excuse to show skin–just saying anything we do we must use discernment and care. And if that leaves us with less entertainment options so be it.

I’m from Newfoundland, Canada, and we had a business meeting in Dallas Texas and a middle aged woman went with me and she insisted we go to Hooters so we did. What do you think? She was very excited about going.

What I think is…I think that the Sacrament of Reconciliation is available for both of you, or, if she isn’t Catholic, you might just let her know that you slipped up and are sorry you agreed to go with her to such a place–for the sake of your testimony to her as a Christian and Catholic. She might not understand why it “matters” but I am guessing that you do or you would not have written. The very fact that she even wanted to go and was “very excited” to do so would seem to indicate that the reputation of HOOTERS precedes it, even in Canada, and not because of the tasty menu either (I doubt either of you went for the cuisine!). That is not judging either of your hearts, just saying an opinion based upon what you asked. But I think that the key idea here is of avoiding “occasions of sin.” With the hundreds of restuarants in the world and even in Dallas, why go to the one which was started with the EXPRESS PURPOSE of giving men (and some women!) a feast of large breasted females? Wasn’t there a McDonald’s anywhere lol? I think you get my point. Blessings and to Confession Saturday :).

Thanks for your post, but this happened like 2 years ago, and I’ve been to confession many times since.

Oddly enough you have answered another question by making this point. Why on earth would you buy or rent or even go see a movie where you knew there was nudity? I rest my case.
Because we’re not fundamentlist Protestants, and we know better. We can enjoy a good movie without having to go banana’s over every little immorality. Or, MOST of us can.

Isnt it odd that we Catholics, who believe we have the fullest form of Christianity, are often the most resistant to purity of heart and mind? And then use this forum as an excuse to instead slam our Protestant brothers and sisters who excel us in holiness many times?

I repeat I am not against movies which portray immorality nor did I once say that. I said several times now in fact, that my point is to be careful and discerning.

Back to the original post, I disagree with supporting HOOTERS and have stated my reasons why. That is all. I am also against anything that tends to weaken my faith and purity. Perhaps, as you rightly stated, I am not “most” of you. But i know where I am weak, and I seriously doubt I am alone here. I am judging no one but myself.

I believe you should not go there at all or support the the establisment. Well, that’s a first and rarity, someone that actually likes the wings?

There is a difference between a place where the people are actually dressed immodestly and films where people pretend to be a character that dresses immodestly or sexily.

In a film, the audience suspends reality to engage a particular storyline or tale. Judgment is required in this environment as it always is (e.g. porn, celebrating immorality and such).

Reality is another matter. You are encouraging people, in this case women, to showcase their bodies as serviceable goods. Not a good thing. There isn’t even a hint of camouflaging the intent at hooters unlike other establishments that want young attractive waitresses.

Quite frankly, you’re better off going to a strip club. At least the facade is completely removed. It’s honest about its immorality/immodesty.
