Yes, I would have. It would have taken several hours to thaw, and…IT"S BACON!!! Bacon is preserved just by fact of being bacon–it’s already been salted and smoked! Then it would have been cooked anyway. So that’s 3 forms of preservation to get rid of any bad buggies.

And yes, the kids would have eaten it too. I’m of the mindset that kids can’t live in a sterile bubble. If they do, they won’t develop any immunities to anything, and they will be more sickly all their lives than if they were allowed to be exposed to normal stuff and develop normal immunity.
