Have you heard of the film “Into Great Silence?” It is a documentary about the Carthusians and was filmed at Grand Chartreuse which is their motherhouse in France. There is little talking, except for at LOTH, Mass, and their recreation periods (and some type of reception ceremony for two new monks towards the beginning).I never thought of “Google imaging” Carthusian monks, but I guess you’re right. However, many of them appear to be aerial photographs taken from quite a distance, or random pictures of them in prayer, obscuring their faces with those massive hoods. They certainly don’t ham it up for the cameras.
It required very special permission for the filmmaker to make this.
It’s quite interesting (and relaxing).
