i have seen the commercial, but i must have “tuned out” and didn’t really listen to what was being said.

now that i have seen this thread and watched and listened to the ad, “what were they thinking?”. that is gross and stupid. i had bought the torpedoes twice and really liked them. now i won’t be able to get that image out of my mind. stupid marketing if you ask me.

Quiznos is more than ‘Toasty’; they are in HOT WATER

**Quiznos is more than 'Toasty'; they are in HOT WATER**

Moms, just like you, have taken action on our Hershey's, Campbell's Soup, and "Family Guy" campaigns, which are getting moms involved in what their children view on television. There is still time for you to [take action on those initiatives](http://www.onemillionmoms.com/) and on the current issue that involves Quiznos.
Moms are furious over the offensive material Quiznos included in its latest advertisement. One version of Quiznos’ newest television and radio ad uses hidden homosexual innuendos to sell sandwiches.

You may view the ad here. Warning: It includes gay sexual content and references the pro-gay lifestyle.

**Take Action

Send an email to Quiznos**, telling them there are better ways to sell sandwiches than to sink to the level of homosexual innuendos.

To have a greater impact, please take one more minute to go one step further and contact the Quiznos’ director of marketing with a personal phone call in hopes of getting this appalling commercial off the air.

Call Rebecca Steinfort, Executive Vice President of Marketing, at 720-359-3300 and share your feelings with her. Ms. Steinfort is responsible for approving this ad.

Sincerely,
Monica Cole, Director

Not ANOTHER company???

Never had a Quizno’s sub—now I never will.

While I am embarased that I thought that-
I am glad there was a better explanation.
Don’t be embarrassed, my husband and I both thought the way you did too 😃 I am going to have to tell him about this HAL explanation. :o

I thought it was HAL when I saw it on tv, but still a little creepy.
The link to the version of the commercial that buffalo posted was much much more suggestive than the one I have seen on tv. It is undeniably perverse. Was that doctored at all? Did any of you see that version on TV?

I saw the one in this thread first, then saw it on TV. Most if not all of the innuendo was cut out of what I saw aired.

I remember at the time those rat-ads came out that I asked on a teenaged skating online board. Turns out they weren’t rats, but they were some musical phenomenon in Europe (England?). It’s not something that most Americans would have known about unless they were into English popular music.

But they looked like dead rats to me.
Spongmonkeys. They are spongmonkeys.

Scroll down the page to see the nifty stuff you can buy - including a plushie toy!

Considering that so many people have mentioned they looked like rats perhaps the ad wasn’t a good choice by Quiznos. But I think the Torpedo ad is also a mistake. The version which the OP linked to is definitely suggestive and is mildly nauseating.

If I would have seen this without looking for innuendos, I would’ve thought it was a little weird. Even looking for innuendos, it’s even more weird. But I don’t think that the weirdness is “promoting homosexuality.” It’s a little of a stretch.
Ok, “Put it in me, Scott” was just a bit weird.
But he was putting it in an oven! If a person said that, it would be strange, but considering it was a sandwich, I would assume the person was really hungry, even though most people don’t say things like that when they’re hungry.

Using the word “sexy” makes the innuendos more noticeable, though. If those words were left out, it would be even harder to connect this with a homosexual agenda. Still, the ad as a whole is a bit of a stretch.

i was offended because it came accross to me as simply sexual content, which is by itself offensive in the crude way(or at ll…why does everything have to be about sex?!) but i never thought of it as homosexual.Either way i hate the commercial.

***I might be the only one who hasn’t seen this commercial, but I told my kids about this thread this morning, and they both said…‘it’s weird, mom.’

Out of the mouths of babes. 🤷 ***

Nope, there are at least 2 of us who have not seen the commercial.

Makes me glad I cannot affort time to watch television. There is charity to do, virtue to practice, teaching faith to young minds, etc.

Living one’s faith is a perfect antidote to a lot of societal ills.

God bless

I personally think that no matter how good (or bad) ads are, the bottom line is and will always be, “Is the advertised product any good?” or in the case of Quiznos–“Does it taste good?”

I haven’t met too many people who prefer Quizno’s franchised sandwiches over their own local deli sandwiches, or over the humble Subway subs (which are much cheaper).

I think sandwich places in particular really have to be careful because many people have a definite “ethnic” preference for a certain kind of deli sandwich; e.g., Italians prefer pastrami, salami, etc. while Poles prefer other meats, American Southerners prefer certain tastes, etc. My personal taste is for plain old cold cuts like balogna, etc. and lots of cheese (live close to Wisconsin!). My husband likes lots of mayo, while other people prefer olive oil, and I like it dry.

And I think that’s why the local delis and grocery stores are, for many people, preferable to a chain. You can get what you’ve grown up with.

Okay, this is just my :twocents:

I am hardly someone looking for a “demon around every corner” or gay references everywhere.

However, the commercial struck me as wrong. Aside from the guy looking at it his crotch saying “I won’t do that again” because he got burnt, it’s the oven saying, “You know we both liked that, Scott. Put it in me, Scott.” The oven also says “Say it sexy, Scott.”

The HAL reference wasn’t lost on me, but it was pervy HAL to me. I mean, let’s be real, here: if some human said, “Put it in me, Scott,” where does YOUR mind go?

Maybe I’m being gutterbrained here, but my thoughts don’t go nice places when I hear that. If HAL was genuinely what they wanted, there are other ways to reference it than that.

Just my opinion. Oh, and my husband, who loves Family Guy (I enjoy it too, admittedly) and others like it, also thought it was way too much and quite pervy. He looked at me and said, “Did I hear that right?”

ETA: I don’t think it’s pushing a gay agenda, but I think it’s very much innuendo and rather nauseating. Oh, and the full version is on cable here.

Your kids are right, it is weird. I saw 2001: A Space Odessy & I was not reminded of Hal, nor did I think it was about homosexuality. What I saw was an inferrence of a weird relationship of a sexual nature with a Robot/Oven & a Human named Scott. The Robot/Oven tells Scott that he would like Scott to do something. Scott looks downward & says “No, the last time I got burned.” The Robot/Oven tells Scott to “put it in me,” of course referring to a sub-sandwich:blush:. The Robot/Oven tells Scott to say something in a sexy way, then cue to the Barry White-type music:cool:. Puh-leeze! This is so weird, creepy, not to mention STUPID & INSULTING. Oh yeah, that makes me want to run out and eat at Quiznos. Some of these " brains" in advertising must come straight from A Frat-House (Animal House comes to mind). WhateverGirl, you should view the commercial. A link is provided in the original post. Tell us what you think.

This AD is suppose to be emulating 2001 a Space Odyssey, it has nothing to do with Homosexuality unless you are a homophobe.

And I use that term appropriately. Are there homosexuals who want to push for more than equal rights, of course.

This however is not part of the “gay” agenda.

Once again, we have groups that find it easy to send a lot of emails and complain without really doing a lot of work.

There are other things we could be doing as Christians to teach the message of our Lord.

and he looks down at his crotch at the beginning saying “i aint doing that again i got burnt”

and the stove says"we both enjoyed that"
It took two views for me to catch that - pretty sneaky but that’s how it goes with these people.

He looks downward - he doesn’t look to me as if he’s looking at his crotch.

Besides - who are “these people”??? You paint with a very broad brush - do you mean Quiznos? The ad agency? The creative department? The guy who takes out the trash at said ad agency? The president of Quiznos who probably had no idea of the ad?

Who is the guilty party here?

This has nothing to do with gay agenda - it’s just a poorly thought out ad that is stupid and juvenile.

HEY…maybe someone complained to Quizno’s because I finally caught this commercial yesterday, and it looked to be very short…almost like it was edited. I didn’t see the references, so it sort of didn’t make sense.

lizaanne…I think you are right …it’s really immature… I don’t think there is a gay innuendo, either…it’s just dumb and drunk frat-boy humor to me.🤷

I have a good sense of humor, and I just don’t get it. 🤷

You could have just seen a shorter version of the ad. Many ads are made in different run lengths to fit in different sized time slots. It is not uncommon to see a 30 second version of a 50 second ad, they make them that way often so they can more flexibly fit into available slots. 😉

It’s a stupid ad - but not worth “boycott”.

He looks downward - he doesn’t look to me as if he’s looking at his crotch.
Well unless he’s saying he burned his toes 😛 the only other “downward” region that would make sense in the context (Barry White baritone, sexy music) is the crotch. 🤷 I mean, what does the oven mean by saying “we both enjoyed that”? I mean, really! Let’s not be so naive! 😉
“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.”

“These people” are those who deliberately publish these types of provocative media messages and then say “who, me”? when called on it. It was the same thing with the Krispy Kreme debacle a while back. Juvenile? Yes, absolutely. It’s seems just as well to ignore such things but unfortunately it adds up to the growing crassness of our society. I am not ashamed to see this and proclaim it for what it is. Will I protest Quizno’s or not eat there anymore? Probably not. But why are we so ashamed by recognizing how far our society is falling day by day?
