I think you’re going to find, if you actually look at those most angered by the Net Neutrality decision, that it is precisely the same group of tech-savvy but socially questionable types who got fired up by Gamer Gate and James Damore’s firing are going to be the people who are targeting Pai.

Leftists are far more hateful and racist than people on the right. And this is that much worse because they make it a point to specifically say they are the better ones. This is proven time and time again. They do however use the media to manufacture a narrative that the opposite is true.

No surprise. They also just picked up Steve Bannon whom they’ve been accusing (among others including yours truly) as being a white supremacist (although he’s not but they think he is) just like the snap of 2 fingers.

I wonder how long before David Duke is back in their good graces.

Is John Oliver threatening Pai and his family? Did you even read my post? Did you even read what the thread is about?

I was actually going to comment that this reminded me a lot of Gamer Gate. Death threats and Doxing are favoured tools among that crowd.
You mean like Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerburg, and Eric Schmidt?
I wouldn’t categorize making a legal challenge to a change in regulation the same as anonymous and illegal threats and harassment.

He did start the website GoFCCYourself.com which is where many of the threatening posts originate from.
It’s not a site. It’s a forwarding address to simplify getting to the FCC hosted site (look at your address bar after typing in the address). The FCC site that was made for comment otherwise required a series of clicks to get to to comments area. This forwarding address just takes you to the proper domain.

Firstly. The typical 4Chan goon is an alt-right slob.

Secondly, John Oliver is mainstream? I choked on my water from laughing.

That being said there’s plenty of reasons to hate Pai. Shame on people for being abusive.

Why hate anyone? Can’t someone disagree without hate?? Hate often leads to violence and why would one want to do violence to another?

Hate what he’s doing? Hate that a Verizon shill overturned monopoly protection? However you want to describe it. There’s plenty of things to be angry at Ajit Pai about. His race isn’t one of them. And taking those cheap shots just ruin the opposition’s credibility.

I can’t tell what you are asking.
Really? Or are you hoping to just duck out of the issue?

Give me examples of death threats and doxing.

I can tell you that OTOH Laci Green got quite a bit of those for “betraying” the Sarkessian crowd—which just meant she was talking to people who disagreed with her.

No need to suggest accusations. I could not tell what you were asking. We’ve interacted several times within this forum and I’ve never been evasive with you. The suggestion that I am being so now is unjustified. I believe discussion can be much more productive without this. If you are interested in productive discussion I ask that you not make such suggestions without justification.

How familiar are you with Gamer Gate? Zoë Quinn, one of the earlier targets in Gamer Gate, experienced people acquiring and posting personal information about her. Her Tumblr, Skype, and online file storage accounts were hacked and she received death and rape threats. Biranna Wu, another target, ended up with her home address and other information being posted (in her case through 8chan) and received death and rape threats through multiple channels. There are others. More information about the people and their family members that were subjected to threats and doxing is readily available, but I don’t suggest looking into the details if you think you might be bothered by the actual content of the threats.

I know what Gamergate is, but quite frankly, I was late to the party and can’t attest to anything either party says. On-line threats happen all the time. I’ve gotten some myself.

But there’s a couple of things here:
  1. Ben Shapiro and Donald Trump receive death threats on the same social media that the gamergate folks allegedly did. Yet, those who whine about Gamergate are silent on that. Or about the threats exchanged between Bieber and Miley fans.
So you’ll excuse me if I don’t buy into all the politically and culturally selective moral outrage.
  1. I’m trying to determine if bringing up gamergate on here is just a proxy attack on the free speech crowd----are we talking about the supposedly dark depths of 4-chan (I don’t go on there, so I wouldn’t know…NOT that Catholic Answers Forums accounts will believe what I read and don’t read:roll_eyes:) or are we talking about mainstream personalities like Chris Ray Gun and Dave Rubin.
All in all, I do not testify to things I didn’t witness. What I HAVE witnessed, however, WAS the evangelical right AND feminists trying to blame video gamers (like me) for things like Columbine and basically made-up sexism. So I would say, ThinkSapien, that these folks would not have been randomly attacked or picked on but that they started a fight they couldn’t finish.

Now, I think rape threats and death threats are just stupid—and if someone feels threatened, they should file a police report. If you’re first instinct is to upload that garbage to Facebook or twitter, my impression is you don’t take such threats seriously or do not feel that bad about it. Though I do note the irony of them praising Muslim-majority nations like Saudi Arabia as models for feminist progress.
