The Roman catholic church has changed so many things to accomodate their own beliefs, they certainly have another gospel. Purgatory, praying for the dead, praying to the saints, praying to dead loved ones, tabernacle in the church, confession to a priest, priests can forgive sins, mass for the dead, kissing statues, salvation by baptism, receiving Christ in the eucharist, holy water, a “holy” pope. Shall I keep going on? Man, how many things out side of God’s word. Obviously another gospel made up for themselves. Ralph

… let’s tackle these.
Purgatory
we can see in scripture that there is a state that is not heaven nor hell where someone can still be forgiven. A place where one can suffer loss (not in heaven) and still be saved (not in hell).
praying for the dead, praying to the saints, praying to dead loved ones
Scripture tells us there is ONE body in Christ, not one in heaven and one on earth. If we are to pray for each other and ask others to pray for us why does this stop when someone is in heaven. This ONE body of Christ … nothing can separate it from Christ (as scripture tells us). Do you believe death can separate a Christian from Christ?
Note that ‘pray to’ does not mean worship as you might think it does. It only means to ‘ask of’. A line from Shrek… “I pray thee take this favor as a sign of my love for thee.”
tabernacle in the church
I admit this is a new objection I haven’t seen before. Why the objection?
confession to a priest, priests can forgive sins
Scripture shows us that Jesus gave men power (to heal, to drive out demons) … and even to forgive sins. (John 20:21-23)
kissing statues
I guess you think this means we worship the statue … not so.
Consider a widow who kisses the photo of the dead husband. Does she think the photo IS her husband … or does the photo remind her of a love one.
That’s all statues are for Catholics … like photos so that we can remember the person. nothing more.
salvation by baptism
uhhh
1 Pet 3:21 “Baptism, …, now saves you”
You act like we make this stuff up.
receiving Christ in the eucharist
John 6:53 “unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you”.
At the last supper he holds the bread and says “this is my body, which will be given up for you”. He equates the bread to the body which will be given up for us. Catholics believe that His body on the cross was his actual, physical body and not a symbol of his body.
holy water
Not sure where you get the idea that something cannot be blessed or holy.
a “holy” pope
You added ‘holy’ for some reason.
We do not believe the pope is sinless, if that is what you are implying.
We absolutely believe that Jesus told Peter singularly to feed his sheep.
You tell me what the significance of God (Jesus) changing Simon’s name to Peter.
We also believe that the apostles held a position (bishopric in the KJV, Acts 1). Judas was gone and his office remained and needed to be filled. We see Paul sending Timothy to ordain men to teach and ordain others.
By all means … keep going on.
Let’s get through these.
I’ve barely scratched the scriptural surface with these.
If you are actually interested, let’s hit them one by one.
Speaking of a new gospel … Let’s look at Sola Scriptura. A tradition of men, that negates the Word of God.
I’ve got 21 reasons to reject Sola Scriptura.
- The Doctrine of Sola Scriptura is not taught anywhere in the Bible
- The Bible Indicates that In Addition to the Written Word, we are to accept Oral Tradition
- The Bible Calls the Church and not the Bible the “Pillar and Ground of the Truth.”
- Christ tells us to submit to the Authority of the Church
5 Scripture itself states that it is insufficient of itself as a teacher, but rather needs an interpreter.
- The first Christians did not have a Bible
- The Church produced the Bible not vice-versa
- The idea of the Scripture’s Authority existing apart from the authority of the Teacher Church is utterly foreign to the Early Church.
- Heresiarchs and heretical movements based their doctrines on Scripture interpreted apart from Tradition and the Magisterium.
- The Canon of the Bible was not settled until the 4th Century.
- An “Extra-Biblical” Authority Identified the Canon of the Bible.
- The Belief that Scripture is “Self-Authenticating” Does Not Hold Up under Examination
- None of the Original Biblical Manuscripts is Extant.
- The Biblical Manuscripts Contain Thousands of Variations
- There Are Hundreds of Bible Versions.
- The Bible Was Not Available to Individual Believers until the 15th Century.
- The Doctrine of Sola Scriptura Did Not Exist Prior to the 14th Century.
- The Doctrine of Sola Scriptura Produces Bad Fruit, Namely, Division and Disunity.
- The Doctrine of Sola Scriptura Does Not Allow for a Final, Definitive Interpretation of any given Passage of Scripture.
- The Protestant Bible Is Missing 7 Entire Books
- The Doctrine of Sola Scriptura Had its Source in Luther’s Own Emotional Problems.
