My cubicle mate is having a serious case of Ramadan breath. This is only week 1. When I was in Saudi Arabia, I never had any problem because the Saudis kept their mouth fresh with the Mishak brush from Sudan.
My Muslim boyfriend is having this as well! I asked him three times yesterday to rinse his mouth with mouth wash 😃 I wanted to fast with him yesterday, but was ill and was worried I wouldn’t be able to drive safely with low sugar levels.

People who can go the day with no food or water have so much self-discipline.

Is that really necessary? I mean, really? What kind of response do you expect from a post like that? Obviously most of us here aren’t Muslim, the least we can do is treat our brothers and sisters with respect. If you disagree with his religion, fine, but keep your snarky comments to yourself.
I agree with you. There are those CAF members (thankfully few) who refuse to even treat their fellow Christians with a modicum of respect. So, I guess it’s not to be unexpected that this would be the attitude toward those of another faith. Couldn’t you just say. I may not believe as you do but I wish you well during this time of observance?

You were wise to not fast if you believed others and your self could be at risk.

Muslims say Allah wants to make it easy for you.

Yesterday i took ill with a clod nose pouring eyes streaming water, and broke my fasting, maybe first time ever today i am a power house feeling fitter and back on fasting for His glory. He blesses me that through the year i can fast for yesterday.
He is an awesome G-d making all things easy.

I fast normally Ramadan, Advent and Lent I have very poor self discipline.
Truly for me G-d / Allah makes it easy
In other times of the year i look at my pants getting tight and say, i think i should not eat today or i should cut back my eating but fall back very quick.

When you wake b4 first light and have a big drink of water (i dont do breakfast) and ask G-d to strengthen you in your days fasting for His glory. Go and offer prayer and towards the end the birds join you in prayer you feel something different.
Through the day if hunger or thirst comes about, you offer a little prayer and after a week you start to see that, you least needed food and water one would normally consume but have been conditioned to think that is the most important need, when in truth relationship with G-d is better food.

At iftar (breaking fast) those three little sips of water are much appreciated and i begin to see i take so much of His blessing for granted, as a child i never appreciated water after all it was not coke LOL.

Bless ya

stands up and cheers

Dude, that was a really ****** response. Shame on you!

are there saudis that dont fast? is it a must to fast even if you dont want to?
I don’t think so, at least I don’t see anyone on the streets eating or drinking, not only because it’s prohibited by law, but also because all restaurants are closed in the morning, however, you know in Islam there is no “if you don’t want to”, it’s obligation…
thats wrong, and the females prepare the iftar? still they cant eat?
I totally agree with you.
Is that some sort of cheese in the center of that bread…??
Yummy, if that is a cheese then we have similar bread here in SA called “cheese pie”:

Our Mohammedan friends, as sons of our father Abraham, are on a path towards God. I pray they will find the fullness of the Faith in Isa ibn-Maryam al-Masih, Our Lord.

Salaam Aleikum

Thanks for the reminder! I always wish my Muslim neighbors a blessed Ramadan and they reciprocate with Christmas greetings toward me. Sometimes we even exchange gifts! We’ve broken bread together. We try doin all that Golden Rule stuff. United among the human race and in our belief in our Creator whether we call Him God or Allah. Peace and blessings to all our Muslim friends for a holy Ramadan.
That’s beautiful!! I try and do the same for my Muslim friends, as well as any other friends who believe differently than I. This year I told my classmate in my Arabic class “ramadan mubarak” in Arabic and she loved it! Especially where I live, they really appreciate it because they’re often treated harshly. I’m not saying I agree with what they believe in, but if I am to expect them to respect my faith, I feel I must do the same for them. I also must say that my friends’ strong faith, be it Muslim or Christian, always inspires me to be more faithful myself.

Ramadan mubarak!

I am back in the Persian Gulf. Luggage was checked getting off the plane in the same way it is checked before boarding a flight. It did not dawn on me until the next day that security was checking for contraband. I don’t smoke or drink (well maybe once or twice a year), so that was never a problem for me.
Yes, all the restaurants are closed until evening and then stay open late.

We are called to respect everybody, whether or not they share what we believe. It was not hard to refrain from eating meat in front of my former Hindu roommate. These actions in no way compromise our own faith, and as others have stated can actually strengthen it.

Ramadan Karem

Why do you all think that Ramadan is a neat thing?

Ramadan is a time when killing is a good deed and the merits are multiplied

“And already had Allah given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were few in number. Then fear Allah; perhaps you will be grateful”.
(The Quran, Surah 3. “The Family Of Imran”, verse 123)

The month of Ramadan in the life of Mohammed and the righteous ancestors was a month of forthcoming. The greatest battles during the lifetime of the Prophet occurred in this blessed month, the month of jihad, zeal and enthusiasm. This is taken from the Hadith(al-Bukhari).
this also from the same Hadith(al-Bukhari).

“Verily, there are one hundred degrees in Paradise which Allah has reserved for the fighters in His cause. The distance between every two degrees is like the distance between the sky and the Earth, so if you ask Allah for anything, ask Him for the Firdaus, for it is the last part of Paradise and the highest part of Paradise, and at its top there is the Throne of Beneficent, and from it gush forth the rivers of Paradise”.

This website is tracking the jihadist attacks and death toll of this Ramadan and will start comparing it with past Ramadans.

Ramadan is not a holiday, but should be a day of mourning. And I have no idea why people that are not moslems would even think this was a cool period or want to celebrate this!

In Indonesia, ramadhan is the time when there’s a trends of escalating crime due to people wanting to have more cash for anticipation of the celebration…i know it sounds very ridiculous, but that’s the truth. Banking robberies, theft, corruption…u name it!

Sadly, the holidays tend to be a high point for crime. Robberies increase around Christmas, so it doesn’t surprise me that in some Muslim countries they would increase around Ramadan.

Now all we need is How the Grinch Stole Ramadan

I guess you two don’t get it. Ramadan IS a celebration of something worse than a grinch. I don’t know how anyone can put a holiday spin on the numbers of men who were beheaded after the battle of Badr, the untold numbers of women and children who were enslaved, and who knows how much was stolen and damaged.

This isn’t a celebration of the birth of mohammed, it isn’t the celebration of the birth of islam, etc - it is the celebration of death and enslavement that has carried on throughout the ages and is still going on. Not all moslems do those dastardly things but they are celebrating it in their holiday.

qwerk,

I think you are mixing things here, Ramadan is a fasting month, and Muslims doing it because it’s one of the five pillars of Islam and because previous religions did it per (Quran 2:183), and just because Badr battle had happened during Ramadan that doesn’t mean anything.
O you who believe! fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard (against evil).

Yes, but the dough is a ready made (frozen) one which you can buy from the supermarkets.
Actually, this type of dough is good when you have a lot of people gathering in Ramadan Iftar.

Sam, first thing I saw was the shrimp! I love shrimp! What kind of meat is that under the shrimp and cheese? Looks great. Wow! Everything looks scrumptious. You’re making my mouth water. :blushing:

copycat sort of mentality in Ramada? So there is no reason to do it other than copy catting other religions?

Sorry, but there is indeed a reason that it is done. Here is what moslems tell their converts why they celebrate Ramadan.

a quote:
The month of Ramadan is a great month. It is the month in which Allah revealed the Quran as a guidance for the whole of mankind. It is the month in which Allah gave the Muslims victory in their first and greatest battle at Badr. It is the month which has Laylat al-Qadr, a night which is better than a thousand months.
In Ramadan the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the shayaateen (devils) are tied up and the reward for good deeds, acts of charity and acts of worship are multiplied in this month.
And here we see it said just in a different way what is said in the Quran that good deeds are multiplied and good deeds in islam include a lot of despicable things such as deceiving unbelievers, killing them, killing apostates (Killing a critic of Islam is a good deed, since it restores the honor of Allah/Mohammed and removes the threat of fitna from the community.). And the list of good deeds can be expanded but I think that I made my point. Good deeds in islam are what advance islam, any strategy of war.

Sorry but the ‘joy’ of all this food is like looking at something that is rotted and swarming with flies.

Christians have Lent. Jews have Yom Kippur. Muslims have Ramadan. Each of these periods is one of time of repentance for how we have failed to live according to God’s commands.

One of the purposes to fasting is to feel what the poor experience on a daily basis. This is a partial explanation given today by a Muslim about why they fast. It takes discipline to refrain from eating or drinking for 12 to 14 hours at a time.
The O.T. talks about the type of fasting that God asks of each of us, not simply from food but from quarreling. It was a Muslim who confessed to me how he had broken the fast by arguing with his wife in the morning.
Jew, Christian, or Muslim, each of us is a descendant of Abraham. Each of worships the one true God although we differ in how we worship and specifics of what we believe. Each of us is called to follow the Golden Rule, to treat one another with respect despite our differences.

Yesterday’s headline: Protect God’s Places of Worship. The article quoted the Minister of Justice’s call to protect mosques from becoming a pulpit to spread terrorist rhetoric that is contrary to Islamic teaching.
What has been forgotten is the number of American Muslims who successfully claimed Conscientious Objector status during the Vietnam War.

I am beginning my second year working in the Persian Gulf. During my time here, I have never felt unsafe.
