A post on topic, Alleluia!

Well…you are right in that we have a lot of treasure in The Church which is still to be dug up!

I also agree with the Orthodox disciplines of fasting.

Though, I do like that it is at my own volition to fast. Not that this means I can be lazy about it, but that it can be used to uniquely mold to my life. (Schedules, diets, etc.)

Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the discipline of a “required fast” also.

Fasting has helped me spiritually and it is an important part of prayer that a lot of people seem to lack…probably because they do not see it as a prayer and as an inconvenience.

Fasting at least weekly is a wise thing. How one chooses to adopt this is up to them. Whether they want to begin by skipping one meal, doing a complete fast for a full 24 hours (though water is still a must), or eating only meagerly through one day, or eating meagerly at one meal the whole week.

I think abstaining from meat on Fridays is a wonderful tradition that the Church should “enforce” more. The symbolism of it is wonderful!

I love that we can each choose a way that works for us and see how our fasting habits grow from there.
I agree.

I recently started abstaining from meat on Fridays (I started last Lent). It actually was easy at first – the only difficulty was remembering. Now, with my wacky work schedule, it’s becoming more difficult to find meatless meals for Fridays – which is really a good thing. Penances shouldn’t be easy.

It’s not much of a penance, for example, to go down to Katsu and scarf down the all-you-can-eat sushi. 🤷

cathopologist–I think you’re jealous that Catholics don’t have Ramadan. It’s like your heart is just calling you to fast, because you can see there is benefit in fasting and prayer. And you hate to see Muslims leave this precious act of worship because you know how beautiful it is. I think to you, Ramadan indicates the superiority of Islam.

Go on… go to some of your Muslim friends and ask them to help you learn how to fast. 🙂
LOL. Why should i be jealous when Catholics have fasting days as well? 🙂 You can bet for sure, there is benefit from fasting and prayer. And judging from your reply, you have absolutely no idea on how often Catholics fast. For the last time already, i do not hate Muslims. It would be ridiculous considering i have family (sister-in-law) who was a former Muslim as well as hundreds of Muslim friends throughout my life. In fact, i’m off to chat with one of them now. 😉

PS: It’s impossible to hate Muslims where i come from, since many Singaporeans have Malay-Muslim friends. Do some research into the Singaporean culture next time you decide to make such accusations, yeah? 👍

Is ramadan and its beginnigs really a spiritual journey or a diet of a warrior?

Google ‘ramadan warrior diet’.

Now, there is nothing hateful in these stories, but it does seem that they do hit on one thing - that warriors would war and hunt during the day and eat at night before resting.

since mohammed was a warrior - this diet was probably a diet that many of the mohammedans were forced to observe since they warred quite often.

Contrary to what Muslims say on TV, Ramadan isn’t that wonderful.
I think sometimes people lose perspective and so it is important to remind ourselves of why we are fasting. In the last days of the month before ramadan the prophet (s) gave a wonderful speech which i’d like to quote.

"Oh people, verily Allah’s month has approached with blessings and mercy and forgiveness.

In Allah’s sight it is the best of all months, its days are best of all days, its nights are the best of all nights and its hour is the best of all hours.

It is a month in which you are called to be Allah’s guests, and are honored by Him.

Your very breaths (in this month) are chants, your sleep is worship, your (good) deeds are accepted and your prayers are answered.

So ask Allah your Lord with true intentions and pure hearts that he grant you success in fasting and reading his holy book.

Verily the miserable person is the one who has been deprived from Allah’s forgiveness in this great month.

Remember with your hunger and thirst in this month the hunger and thirst of the day of judgment.

Give in charity to your poor and needy. Have great regard for your elderly and be merciful towards the young ones.

Connect with your blood ties and guard your tongues. keep your eyes and ears away from what has been forbidden to look at and listen to.

Be kind towards the orphans of others and they will be kind to your orphans.

Repent towards Him from your sins and lift your hands to Him in supplication during prayer times for indeed it is the best hours where Allah looks with mercy towards his servants, he answers them when they confide in Him, He responds when they call Him.

Oh People, your souls are pawned by your deeds so free it with your forgiveness.

Your backs are heavy from your burdens so lighten it by extending your prostration (in prayer).

And know that Allah (swt) has taken an oath by His Glory not to punish those who pray and prostrate and not to frighten them with the fire on the day people will be gathered to their Lord.

Oh people, whoever among you improves his manners in this month, Allah grants him a firm pass to cross the straight path (siratul mustakeem) on the day that people’s feet will be shaky.

Whomever is easy on his subordinates this month. Allah will be easy in taking his account on the day of judgement.

Whomever keeps his evil away, Allah will keep His anger from him on the day he meets Him.

Whomever honors an orphan in this month, Allah will honor him on the day he meets Him.

Whomever connected with his kinfolk, Allah will connect him with his mercy on the day He meets him.

Whomever severed ties with his kinfolk, Allah will sever him from his mercy.

Whoever volunteers extra prayers Allah will write for him an immunity from the fire.

Whoever fulfills an obligatory deed will have the reward of one who fulfills 70 obligatory deeds in the other months.

And whoever increases in sending peace and blessings upon me, Allah will make his scale heavy on the day the scales will be light.

Whoever recites one verse of the Quran will have the reward of reading the Quran from cover to cover in the other months.

Oh people, verily the gates of heaven are open in this month so ask your lord not to close it on you.

The gates of Hellfire are closed so asked your lord not to open it on you.

The evil ones (shayateen) are chained so ask your Lord not to unleash them upon you."

🙂 Welcome back shiat friend “famdigy”, long time no posting!, its good to hear your opinion from time to time since (I think) you are the only shiat Muslim posting here.

It suppose to be a spiritual journey, and Allah prescribed it because he prescribed it to previous religions, per (Quran 2:183):

O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint

**Very good. Thanks. The topic is about ramadhan and fasting. I give here the Muslims schedule of the day.
  1. Wake up at about 5:30 a.m. i.e. one hour before sunrise for eating morning meal. Eat and drink till close of the time. (Sehri)
  2. Go for the collective morning prayer in the mosque before sunrise, about 6:15 a.m.
  3. Study Quran for about 10 minutes.
  4. Go for a light walk in the garden.
  5. Go to sleep till 8:30 a.m.
  6. Go to office or place of work and work till 3 p.m.
  7. Midday prayer (afternoon).
  8. Rest for a while.
  9. Late Afternoon (Asr) prayer in mosque or at home.
  10. Be ready for breakfast at sunset. (fatoor)
  11. Evening prayer soon after breakfast.
  12. Go to mosque after one hour for the lengthy prayer in which large part of Quran is recited by memory. It takes about one hour or more.
  13. After that one is free to go any where with kids for shopping
    or later go to sleep.
  14. That will be the end of the days schedule.
During the day there is no joking, no smoking, no eating, no drinking and no back biting, no adverse thing. One has to be careful for those bad things and should try to avoid any evil beside refraining from eating and drinking.
**

Wait…so you’re supposed to eat for the entire hour before sunrise? How is that in any way keeping with a spirit of restraint and resistance to temptation? I had figured that Muslims would only have a simple, small meal in this time, but maybe I am wrong.

I just had a bowl of cereal for breakfast about an hour ago (when it was still dark out). It took me maybe 20 minutes to pour and eat the whole thing. And I didn’t eat at ALL yesterday. Clearly, I am pretty great at this Ramadan thing (though my not eating yesterday was the result of illness, not planned honestly). May Allah be pleased with me. 😃

your allah can not even be compared to anyone else’s religion except for the pagan religion of mohammed and mohammed’s alter ego.

blah blah blah
yeah, mohammed thought that ramadan was so great when he decided that his followers should observe it that he didn’t even follow it.

Ishaq:288 “The Quraysh said, ‘Muhammad and his Companions have violated the sacred month, shed blood, seized property, and taken men captive. Muhammad claims that he is following obedience to Allah, yet he is the first to violate the holy month and to kill.’”

Here is a hadith on what one did during Ramadan to an old woman:
Tabari VIII:96 “A raiding party led by Zayd set out against Umm in Ramadan. During it, Umm suffered a cruel death. Zyad tied her legs with rope and then tied her between two camels until they split her in two. She was a very old woman. Then they brought Umm’s daughter and Abdallah to the Messenger. Umm’s daughter belonged to Salamah who had captured her. Muhammad asked Salamah for her, and Salamah gave her to him.”

Here is some info from the surah and hadith on mohammed’s breaking ramadan:

The conquest of Mecca began in the month in which the Qur’an prohibited fighting. Tabari VIII:160 “Allah’s Apostle set out on the expedition against the people of Mecca in the month of Ramadan.” The prophet wasn’t religious; he knew Islam’s “holy months” were a farce. After all, he had stolen the dogma from a pagan.

But why do Muslims follow a prophet who so blatantly ignored his god’s orders? Qur’an 9:5 “When the sacred forbidden months for fighting are past, fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, beleaguer them, and lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”

your allah can not even be compared to anyone else’s religion except for the pagan religion of mohammed and mohammed’s alter ego.
R_not, I ask you to take a different tack here, please. Please remember that our friend Sam_777 is a Saudi who is feeling the love of God in His true essence in Christianity! Sam is in a transitional period, and we must do all we can to support him and show him love, not rudeness.

While Sam is still Muslim due to the immense pull of his tradition and homeland, his posts in many other threads show that he is kind of heart, and sincerely seeeking our Lord. I consider Sam my brother and will not hesitate to support him and anyone else who is in a similar position in their faith. To show love for others is the greatest of commandments. Remember Matthew 22:37-40, where Jesus tells us that upon that commandment and the commandment to love the Lord with all of your heart, soul, and mind hang ALL of the law. I deeply believe this as I know you must too. I love Sam as I love you and all who live in Christ either covertly or openly.

I know we have had our open disagreements in the past, R_not, and I hope that you will not take this as a personal attack as a result of those. I do not mean it to be, only to point out the particular circumstance under which Sam posts in case it is unknown to you, so that you may hopefully take it into account and respond to his posts as it would be appropriate to respond to any one of your baptized Christian brothers and sisters, among whom Sam will one day, God-willing, be joyfully counted.

Yeah, while we hear all this goodness none of them do anything to stop the violence worldwide, not one. I only use their own koran and hadiths. I don’t get any response from them about it and if you can’t see the frustration in that part of all of this - then I am sorry. They ignore their own koran and hadiths.

I also don’t trust them since deception is a part of islam, and when the ‘moderates’ ignore their own koran and hadiths - that is part of the deception. Even from a supposed ‘peaceful’ sounding one.

We are to accept that ramadan is soooo holy and such - when it was even ignored by their own prophet who started the thing.

What you guys are missing is that they want you all to get caught up in the facade of peace while they don’t even do anything about the radicalization that is going on in their own mosques. They tell us one thing while turning around and doing another. They tell the ones who find radical teachings in their mosques that they will stop and then continue on and ignore those who tell them to stop.

The ones on these threads are in full da’wa mode and to think that islam is equal to Judaism and Christianity is nothing but a wish on their part. mohammed included a bunch of screwed up stories from the Bible and too many just fall for it and accept it.

I have heard about ‘sinning’ from these guys too. And they don’t even bother telling people that sin for them is not the same as what we think it is. Sin for them doesn’t include lying to, raping, stealing from, enslaving, killing, and torturing infidels. And what do they do? Post some abrogated passages and deceive us about islam.

A saudi muslim talking about peace and tolerance is a laugh too. Our Pope can’t even talk to these people about tolerance and as for peace - they are the largest exporters of jihadists (yeah, that violent kind) and are experts in deception - speaking out of both sides of the mouth. While making islam sound all peaceful and posting abrogated passages - there is none of that peace for us in their own land. A country that actively is involved in the slave trade, and if a sole human being speaks up about tolerance - they get beheaded. saudi arabia teaches wahabbism - the radical form of islam which is another reason why I don’t believe his posts.

I know you are in America, so are you a supporter of the war in Iraq. The violence created by Bush and company. So what are you doing to stop that violence???

Killing is wrong no matter who does it.

Thy shall not kill. (Moses)

Turn the other cheek. (Jesus)

I support the goings on in Iraq. And since the surge worked - against muslim jihadists who were killing more muslims than anyone else - and there is now a ‘draw down’ - I support that too.

And I was indeed in the military for 7+ years - the USMC and supported it by my presence. I also volunteer for Act for America and work towards the stealth jihad in our country.

Sorry, but your assertion that we caused the violence there is just a left wing mantra that we have been hearing for years now.

And I ask you - what do you do to stop the violence? The slaughter of Christians is happening by muslims worldwide - it isn’t only Jews, Buddhists, and Hindus - they have, and are, slaughtering Christians.

And the muslims? Well, they riot over cartoons and destroy Churches and kill old nuns and people who work for embassys, celebrate and ulalate over jihadists who become martyrs - especially on 9/11, and tell us they are ‘moderate’. And they don’t raise a peep over the killing of infidels. And they post abrogated passages. They don’t even do anything such as creating their own group to tell the UN, the world, that they want sharia laws changed - those laws in every land that have the worst human rights abuses anywhere.

Instead they are working with the UN to try to stop free speech.

I have a question relating to ramadan,
I know you cant drink water also.
Now i noticed the last few days its been getting close to 50 degrees in some parts of the middle east (thats around 120 fahrenheit for my American friends here:) )
How do people survive in these temperatures without drinking water all day?
I mean, the fasting us Catholics undertake is fair, but this is close to barbaric…

I support the goings on in Iraq. And since the surge worked - against muslim jihadists who were killing more muslims than anyone else - and there is now a ‘draw down’ - I support that too.
What a hypocrite? You support killing as long as it kills Muslim.

A life is a life.

I don’t support killing, wars and the likes. This is one of the reasons I left Islam, because jihad is part of the Islamic faith.

As a Christian, I don’t support violence.

And I can’t believe you support violence, after all this talk about look at the Muslims supporting violence, showing verses in the Quran and hadith that Islam supports violence, trying your best to disgrace Islam and the Muslims because of their support for violence, and you are a supporter of violence.

What a hypocrite???

Sorry, but your assertion that we caused the violence there is just a left wing mantra that we have been hearing for years now.
Far from a mantra,

According to an Iraqi Christian Priest in Iraq, life was better under the rule of Saddam than now. So American presences in Iraq brought more pain and killing to that country then under the rule of Saddam. Saddam was an evil man. I am not a supporter of Saddam, but I am just stating the facts. cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/29/60minutes/main3553612.shtml

The priest in the above article says,
“It’s happening because religion has gone wrong,” White told Pelley. “And when religion goes wrong, it kills others.”
“The Muslim religion has gone wrong, is that what you’re saying?” Pelley asks.
“It has. And in the past, Christianity has gone wrong,” White says. **“And what I say to people very clearly is that the history of Christianity is no better than the history of Islam.” **
People like you create a bad history for Christianity. People like you make it harder for Christians who believe in peace to defend the Christian faith against religions that support fighting like Islam.

**The very thing you condemn Islam for is what you actually support, **(ie violence, death etc etc.)
And I was indeed in the military for 7+ years - the USMC and supported it by my presence. I also volunteer for Act for America and work towards the stealth jihad in our country.
What does being in the Marines have to do with you being Christian, and standing up for what Jesus taught???

I find the continuation of your mantra rather ridiculous.

The problem with irrational thought is that the first thing that comes is an over emotional response.

So, muslims killing more muslims and us stopping it is bad?

I think that there is a problem with logic here. Not one word was read other than I support the war effort.

We have not only succeeded in slowing down the muslims killing other muslims dramatically, but they are on the way to economic success too. Now, hopefully they won’t be like the palestinians and vote for terrorists such as hamas, or like the Lebanese and vote for hezbollah or be like the Egyptians and vote for the muslim brotherhood in for their leaders. I really don’t hold out too much hope there for now - but we shall see.

I feel sorry for people like you Silouan who are unable to realize the difference between the aggression that the muslims have started worldwide to us succeeding in stopping it.

The schools are rebuilt and children - including girls - are going to school, they can go outside and play and you say this is a bad thing. It isn’t our guys who hide behind them while being aggressive - it is the jihadists.

And we are now heading towards Afghanistan again because the jihadists are infiltrating that land again - they just can’t seem to stop killing and wanting to make women and children into their personal beating and kicking targets, while stopping girl children from going to school.

The memory of the left wingers is very short - only long enough to suit their needs. They forget the honor killings gone awry, or the Hussein killing fields, or anything if it doesn’t prove their point.

What does being in the Marines have to do with you being Christian, and standing up for what Jesus taught???

In Christ,

Silouan
It has to do with doing what is right and not sitting back and letting others do it. Or whining and wailing that things are happening while doing nothing.

I see no problem with separating Church and State. Jesus had no problem with it. Unfortunately, the muslims do have a problem with it because islam is just as much a political movement as it is a ‘religion’.

What I found about the ‘warriors diet’ makes more sense to me in relation to what muslims do in ramadan than anything else. I don’t see anything spiritual in islam. It is a convoluted mess about mohammed and mohammed was a guy who was out in the field for quite some time until he could just lead from his cushions.
