Prominent Muslim scholar Sheikh Youssef al-Qaradawi condemned on Sunday the torching of Danish and Norwegian embassies in Arab capitals by Muslims angry over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad. Qaradawi, who is based in Qatar, told Arabic television Al Jazeera that Muslims should instead channel their fury by boycotting goods of countries who published the drawings in their newspapers.

“We call on Muslims to show their fury in a logical an controlled manner,” Qaradawi said.“We didn’t ask people to burn embassies as some have done in Damascus and Beirut. We asked people to boycott products … We don’t sanction destruction and torching because this is not in line with morality or Muslim behavior,” he said, referring to calls to boycott he made during Friday’s sermon in Qatar…

He is an outspoken Egyptian Sunni Muslim cleric who frequently appears on a weekly religious programme on Al Jazeera television which has a wide viewership in the Arab world.

Matt, what does that have to do with the OP?
It’s called “pouring oil on troubled waters” instead of “petrol on the fire” which is what most Muslin clerics are accused of.

The worlds Muslims are not universally happy to see embassies torched or their neighbourhoods, coincidentally Christian in this case, trashed.

Twenty-eight people were wounded in the Beirut clashes, some were treated for inhaling teargas and others had sustained fractures, a civil defence medic said.

The protesters also attacked property and shops in Ashrafiyeh district, throwing stones, breaking windows and overturning cars, an AFP journalist said.

There were chaotic scenes as hundreds as protesters marched through the area, knocking down barricades. Stones were thrown at a church as Islamic leaders were seen appealing for calm.

The only upside to the burnings and violence is that it shows the Jaded Westerners that Religion is indeed important to some people. The Dems and Western Reporters tend to laugh off Christian protests of sacrilege. They may not laugh off the Muslim protest of sacrilege.

Matt,

A lot of people are unhappy about it. But the OP didn’t say that the worlds Muslims were universally happy about burning ransacking Christian neighborhoods. Your being too defensive. Get back on topic of the OP which is that Christian neighborhoods ARE being ransacked.

Neighbourhoods plural? Not just the one in which the Embassy happens to be situated?
