I have no doubt but that it is a trying experience being “taught” by someone who is not merely ignorant but wrong about so many important points. There is this, however: it certainly seems to have caused you to think about what is being taught and to challenge what appears invalid. Both of those reactions are beneficial. The benefit to me from my involvement with debates on this forum is that it has caused me to be more precise in expressing my opinion and it has led me to do a great deal of research to be better able to both defend my own position and to challenge the positions of others.

Take this comment on conscience. It is a (regrettably) common belief that if we convince ourselves that something is right we are justified in ignoring what the Church teaches on the subject. That this is completely wrong doesn’t mean that it is simple to refute, but you’ll be able to find specific rebuttals if you search for them. Seek and ye shall find.I think we’ve got our conscience for a reason.
This is no doubt true … but then how would your RCIA teacher ever encounter the truth? He certainly hasn’t found it on his own.I could learn more just staying at home reading by myself.
