RCIA's Killing Me

I’m the OP and thought I would update all you sane people.

I tried to discuss this with the group (there are 18 candidates and catechumens) and was told the schedule was way too tight and we didn’t have time. I promised not to take more than two minutes, but got the same response.

We discussed the commandments in small groups and presented our findings to the class. I told my group what I thought and they at least seemed concerned but only one of us presented (not me) and she didn’t present the objections.

After the session I met with one of the leaders and voiced my objections. Although I had thought the use of this material was because of the nun leading the sessions, he said the entire group, the nun, three “core” leaders, and the priests had agreed on using it so we could get a broader view of the commandments. Ugh! I’m not sure if I feel better or worse knowing everyone is involved.

One of the other presenters, a sponsor, presented “Honor thy mother and thy father, and elders.” She said afterwords she was surprised how the wording had changed. No one questioned who changed it or when, or why the words literally written in stone by God Himself was no longer good enough.

Does anyone know if there’s a religion that is still teaching the messages of God and Christ?

Yes, it’s called the Catholic Church. You’re just not at one.

Ramalama -

Sounds almost exactly like my experience at my wife’s RCIA. They used a watered down version of the Catechism and “didn’t have time” if we tried to pull out the unexpurgated version. But they could let one incoherent fellow go on for 20 minutes about his feelings and past experiences that made no sense, much less had anything to do with the topic at hand.

What’s an OP?

The situation is simply 100% unacceptable. If I were at one of those meetings my normally pristine mouth might even have uttered profanity if I saw a core team attacking their poor converts with Chittister’s heretical BS. Seriously, better for them to have millstones tied about their necks and be cast into the sea…

You have to report this to the bishop - these people are spreading lies in the name of the Church and it has to be stopped. If you feel you can go along to get along just to enter the Church (and since you know more about the Catholic faith than your priest does I think you might be able to pull it off safely) you could stay in the class, but I would say that charity demands you come to the spiritual aid not only of the victims of this heresy but to its proponents (the core team), as well.

I would add to this and say that you also owe it to yourself to learn the correct teachings of the Church, by finding an orthodox RCIA instructor. (And as someone above said, take as many people with you as you can.)

You are getting text-book heresy in this class - a bit of truth mixed with a bit of falsehood, and not a lot of anything, really.

Joan Chistitter is a known heretic; I don’t know why anybody would use her materials in an RCIA class. (Her name came up in a Bible study course I was teaching one time, as well, and I just skipped over that section of the lesson; instead, we had a free discussion period. 😃 )

If people want to be “courageous,” they should stand in front of an abortion clinic and pray the Rosary; I don’t know why we have to be subjected to people deviating from the teachings of the Church in the regular classroom.

Great idea! An on-line CAF RCIA class! I love it!

But she’s got a great hairdresser. You can’t even see the horns!

(I hope I don’t get in trouble for that. 😦 )
I originally posted the question “who is THAT guy?”, but removed it. I think you are safe 🙂
