Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

It took me a while to get through the first 300 pages, but I love how he pulls all the threads together into a rewarding conclusion.

Poking my way through Playing to the Edge, Hayden’s memoirs about his time with the NSA and CIA. Not sure if I’ll keep going through it…I am mostly interested in cybersecurity, and it looks to be only one chapter.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the book form of the script of the new play.

I’m reading “The Whiteman Scenario,” by Steve McCurdy. Cold War nostalgia.

Besides the Bible, I’m simultaneously reading four books: Haily, Holy Queen, Reasons to Believe, First Comes Love and Rome Sweet Home, all by Scott Hahn. I just finished The Lamb’s Supper, too.

Still plodding through Playing to the Edge, turning to a Crichton thriller for fun. (Airframe, Rising Sun).

Beyond Capitalism and Socialism: A New Statement of an Old Ideal, a collection of essays advancing the Catholic social doctrine – which is what ignited my admiration of the Church.
Just finished reading “Redshirts” by Scalzi. Very interesting meta take on the concept of life and time combined with the crushing reality that so many red shirts died during the run of Star Trek.

Finished “Degenerate Moderns” by E Michael Jones awhile back on recommendation. Didn’t realize until after-the-fact he was a borderline anti-Semetic appearing on racist YouTube channels.

Hate it when you finish a book and realize later the author is off the hinges.

Just finished A Tree Grows in Brooklyn for the first time and I loved it. Easily one of the best books I’ve ever read.

So many great quotes from it, but I think my favorite was this:

“Dear God,” she prayed, “let me be something every minute of every hour of my life. Let me be gay; let me be sad. Let me be cold; let me be warm. Let me be hungry…have too much to eat. Let me be ragged or well dressed. Let me be sincere - be deceitful. Let me be truthful; let me be a liar. Let me be honorable and let me sin. Only let me be something every blessed minute. And when I sleep, let me dream all the time so that not one little piece of living is ever lost.”

The Shattered Lantern: Rediscovering a Felt Presence of God, by Ronald Rolheiser, OMI
