Hm, if G.K. Chesterton had written a Star Wars novel, I wonder what it would have been like?

That is an interesting question!
I’ve only seen a few Star Wars films (the original and the Return of the Jedi) and those, some time ago.
Thinking about them in relation to Chesterton, the first thing which came to mind is that a Chesterton Star Wars, would, at some level, point readers towards joy.
I don’t recall experiencing joy while watching either film, or of noting its absence.
Perhaps a lapse on my part?
Maybe I need to keep reading Chesterton and watch Star Wars again. I know there are a few Star Wars fans (and a few Chesterton fans) on CAF. Any other opinions?

Just finished Real Music by Anthony Esolen, written in praise of traditional Catholic hymnody. Lyrical exegesis!

Two different (way different) books:
  1. Epic of Eden by Sandra Richter
  2. The General vs the President by H.W. Brands.
The General vs The President is quite good, if slanted toward Truman heavily but then again he won and it is easier to do the book that way.

Just finished Robert E. Lee by Roy Blount Jr. Short and fair, but a little weird.

In Sinu Jesu: When Heart Speaks to Heart – The Journal of a Priest at Prayer

Just finished “The Lost German Slave Girl,” by John Bailey. An intriguing book which held my interest. It’s based on court records and accounts of a protracted legal battle in which a young woman slave in New Orleans sought her freedom. When is a slave not a slave in 1820’s Louisiana? The legal twists and turns are fascinating, as are the personal twists and turns. It’s history that reads like a novel.
I read that during the past year. It was very interesting, and made me think a lot about how so many people suffered when coming to this country.

Not having ever read anything by Stephen King, would any Stephen King fans out there care to recommend their favorite?
Oh boy, if you haven’t ever read Stephen King, I’d start out easy with The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon. (It is nothing like any of the other books, but the same underlying theme in many of them)

Some of King’s books are very good, he is trying to say something in the books. But MANY of his books are horror for horror’s sake. I’d say the best ones were:

The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon
The Stand (The first one I ever read, which got me hooked on Stephen King)
The Green Mile
Most people loved the Tower Series
Needful Things

The most terrifying and disturbing for me was IT. I’d never read it again. The most boring and worthless was Under the Dome, in my opinion. I don’t read him anymore, I need my sleep! hahaha

Many of his books have a theme of good vs evil,

Eyes of the Dragon was not so much just horror for horrors sake either.

I was blessed to receive an Amazon gift card for my birthday.
I am about to order:

Deliverance Prayers: For Use by the Laity by Fr. Chad A Ripperger PhD
The Noonday Devil: Acedia, the Unnamed Evil of Our Times by Dom Jean-Charles Nault
The Proverbs Explained by Fr. Mitch Pacwa
Spousal Prayer: A Way to Marital Happiness by James Keating

and I have to decide between
1)The Power of Silence: Against the Dictatorship of Noise by Robert Sarah
or
2)The Binding Force of Tradition by Fr. Chad A Ripperger PhD
or
3)Roman Catholic Teaching on Intrinsic Evil by Ronald L. Conte Jr.

hmmm… private message me if you can help me pick 1,2 or 3…?
