Currently working through:
-Story of a Soul by St Thérèse de Lisieux
-A History of the Catholic Church, Vol 1 by Philip Hughes
-How God Became Jesus by Michael Bird et al.

Catholic Bible Dictionary by Scott Hahn
Catholic Dictionary by Fr Stravinksas

I’m such a catholic nerd.

Pope Benedicts 2nd book in the Jesus Trilogy. The first one was great but wow Pope Benedict is such a brilliant man that his writing is really complex. So far and I am only one chapter in, the second book is easier to take in.

As someone who wants to join the order of preachers, I really need to plunge into the Summa Theologica.

Wild Birds, a collection of six short stories by Wendell Berry. The combination of an old man walking the boundaries of his farm, making sure everything is good order and reliving the memories of walking the land with his father, and his son, followed by a grandson’s tale of tending to his grandfather as he lay passing away, has been incredibly powerful. No author moves me the way Wendell Berry does.

A Voyage to Alpha Centauri by Michael D O’Brien.
Set eighty years in the future, this new novel by Michael D. O’Brien is about an expedition sent from the planet Earth to Alpha Centauri, the star closest to our solar system. The Kosmos, a great ship that the central character Neil de Hoyos describes as a “flying city”, is immense in size and capable of more than half light-speed. Hoyos is a Nobel Prize winning physicist who has played a major role in designing the ship.
Hoyos has signed on as a passenger because he desires to escape the seemingly benign totalitarian government that controls everything on his home planet. He is a skeptical and quirky misanthropic humanist with old tragedies, loves, and hatreds that are secreted in his memory. The surprises that await him on the voyage—and its destination—will shatter all of his assumptions and point him to a true new horizon.
Science fiction and fantasy literature are genres that have become dominant forces in contemporary worldwide culture. Fascinated by the near-angelic powers of new technology, we enjoy its benefits but rarely reflect on its potential for obsession and catastrophe. This book explores vital questions about human nature and the cosmos, about man’s image of himself and where he is going—and why he seeks to go there.

OHHHH…It so good, isn’t it?!? I love it so much! Sorry, Hunger games freak here :D. Are you planning on seeing the movie that just came out?
I am! It’s quite an interesting take - it’s not all sunshine and roses (no pun intended) at the end. It reminds me a hair of how King’s *Misery * ended.

“What To Expect When No One’s Expecting–America’s Coming Demographic Disaster,” by Jonathan Last.

I had put it down months ago once I got finished with part 1 but have since picked it back up - Don Quixote by Miguel De Cervantes.

The Real Story by Curtis Martin and Edward Sri. It was free to all parishioners at church.

Apparently I’m the only one reading this new year.

I’m reading *Theology for Beginners *by F.J. Sheed. I had read it many moons ago (15-25 yrs) but found myself in a conundrum about the Virgin Birth and thought it was time to re-read it.

I’m reading the last of the Angela Hunt “Legacies of the Ancient River” trilogy. They are “Dreamers” (which I loved), “Brothers” (which was okay), and “Journey” (which I’m really enjoying:)) They are ancient Egyptian romances. Has anyone else read them? I discovered them accidentally, in the midst of my work as a library shelver:):)!! I took them home, and am seeking more!

Mr Jim, may I recomend you skip “what to expect when expecting” and skip to “what to expect the first year”? (Second and third) … Main reason, this will be the last time for you to advance before they arrive. The woman’s got the ball for now … Prepair yourself to càtch the ball;)
