Reaction in Madrid to negative press coverage of WYD

Scottish Catholic Observer reporter, blogging from Madrid, hits the nail on the head regarding secular media’s fixation with protests in Madrid. After all, 300 times as many people have travelled to Madrid to see the Holy Father as have travelled to protests against him:

“It is still disappointing, but not surprising however, that the international press have, on the large part, only picked up on coverage of WYD since protests began. There has been very little coverage of the news that more than one million young people have gathered from across the world to celebrate and live their Faith together.” Martin Dunlop

The only part of this that surprises me is that anyone would be surprised.
 
I think the blogger was originally referring to the media’s fixation with the protests, and counter protests, and the numbers involved rather than the actual WYD events which the majority of visitors are there for. A comment on how today we define what is news—doom, gloom and disaster—as opposed to reporting on positivity.
 
Fair enough, Since he was soliciting people to assist him in murdering the protesters at World Youth Day, then he was caught actively conspiring to murder those people in order to silence them.

I really pray for that misguided student. So many people are going to take that away as the only thing of importance that actually happened in WYD, and that is a travesty.

You are correct. I replied that way so that readers who may not have heard about that would know he was caught.

There is already a thread about this, just a few threads down or up.

This thread is about the fact that despite more faithful Catholics are coming to see the Pope the media will only cover the protestors, as well as do anything to slander WYD with claims that the State is bleeding dry to sponsor it and other mudslinging.
 
Oh, I guess I can’t really blame them. When one constantly reports the the idea that the Church is old, outdated, and the sole province of the dead and dying I suppose it’s kind of embarrassing to see such a groundswell of youth support. At this point the best they could hope to do is make their readers focus on anything but the fantastic youth response.
 
just a question: do the Holy Father have a dialouge with people who protests against him?

You’re right–my reaction to the protesters is, 'Why must everything be looked at through the lens of a ‘price tag’? ’

But then, that’s all that the MSM does, being steeped in materialism and in the temporalities of this earth.
