I know that this will probably raise some eyebrows (and probably a few people’s blood pressure),

but…

How many of you read non-Christian books as part of your spiritual reading?

Does anyone read:

Jewish Texts (the Kabbalah is in style now, but there are others)?
The Koran?
Confucius?
Tao Te Ching?
Hindu texts?
Native Armerican Legends?
Buddhist teachings?
Zen?

I rather enjoy the Tao Te Ching myself.

Or for that matter, find that reading and studying the physical sciences increases your understanding of God? The next book on my reading list is “The Elegant Universe” apparently about String Theory.

Just curious.

I started reading a book by the Dalai Lama once - mostly out of interest and because a friend had bought it for me though.

But as for science texts. I don’t deliberately read / learn science for spiritual purpose, but I have to read and learn science for my engineering degree. What I find though is that very often, learning science does bring me closer to God. Most recently I was learning some anatomy. You would be amazed at all the various systems God thought up to make a person - hmm lets see if I remember them all - Epithelial, skeletal, muscular, neural, visual, vestibulocochlear, digestive, vascular, respiratory, endocrine, urinary, and reproductive systems. Not something I could have thought up - but God is like that, He’s the most creative being I know.

I had the same thoughts during my one biology class in college… 😃

I’ve read them all. IMO, after reading some Church Fathers and Doctors, they pale before these. It’s like those had been written by well-meaning people, yet spiritual children.

:blessyou:
