Off with his head!
You should diagram the sentence from the Code of Canon law.
- At the concluding doxology of the Eucharistic Prayer, the Deacon stands next to the Priest, and holds the chalice elevated while the Priest elevates the paten with the host, until the people have acclaimed, Amen.
The rubrics, because there is no contradiction. The final qualifier to the sentence is,“which are proper to the celebrating priest.” The GIRM is what tells us what is proper to the celebrating priest. The phrase between the commas ( especially the Eucharistic prayer) must be parenthetical, leaving the last phrase as a modifier to the whole. Knowing grammar, especially sentence diagramming) helps. So which is right canon law 907 or the rubrics?
I don’t think anyone here has said it was acceptable. It was stupid, but it’s not idolatry. Give your blood pressure a break, hon! That’s how much the church has changed. It’s not acceptable to do any of that.
