Liberals: …will ban handguns by:
  • making amendments to the criminal code, inviting participation of provinces and territories to make the ban national;
  • putting forth a handgun amnesty and buy-back program, based on an Australian model, to collect existing handguns; and
  • starting a national “Gunstoppers Program” – which would reward those who provide information leading to the removal of an illegal gun from the street.

I was unaware that there were either liberal or conservative gun laws in Canada. I thought that handguns were strictly prohibited in Canada. Period.

No, handguns just have much more restrictive laws and permitting. Of course this doenst make much difference to the current wave of gun crime as to the best of my knowledge none of the criminals had a permit. The current Liberal government has tried to do the same with long guns and wasted billions of dollars to no effect.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The closest thing in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms seems to be Section 7:
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice.

Here is some commentary on The Firearms Act:
The Firearms Act violates the right to security of the person (section 7) by taking away the ability of citizens to defend their own homes and property. The right to bear arms for the protection of one’s home, family and property has been recognized in English common law for over 200 hundred years. It is affirmed in the writings of Locke and Blackstone. This right is imported into Canadian law by the preamble to the BNA Act (1867) and by section 26 of the Charter. The Firearms Act deprives Canadians of this right by making them completely dependent upon prompt police response in the case of home invasion and robbery. This deprivation is especially harsh for the thousands of Canadians who live in rural areas where police response is often hours after a 911 call has been placed.

I have not done exhaustive research on this subject as of yet, but have been listening closely to the American commentary on this forum. It makes sense to me that gun control removes the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against violent criminals for whom gun control has been laughable.

Somehow I don’t think that the dope dealers and gangs are very worried about loosing there legally purchased weapons. I hear an AK-47 goes for about $175.00 on the street these days.

Dangit! I got ripped going to the gun store then…I paid waaaaaay more than that for mine! How do I get one of the cheap illegal ones!?! They’re probably full-auto too! Mines just a semi… 😦
 
The same liberals who want gun ban also were in favor of racial profiling. Which is how 19 terrorists got on airplanes. (the media deliberately keeps this part out.) We aren’t allowed to have guns, but the prisoners who get released from jail are allowed to have them. Some cities don’t allow you to have handguns, but the criminals for some strange reason are. Serial killers are let out of jail because liberals say their intelligence level isn’t very high. What? That is just nonsense. Liberal America I’m so sick of you.
 
Bones, in Canada, the liberals actually call themselves ‘Liberals.’ It is the Liberal party in Canada who are calling for the handgun ban.

I prefer genuine Colt products myself 😃 . Full auto is a waste anyway, I’m sure semi will lay down a sufficient storm if needed. You need a 458 winchester magnum in your neck of the woods.

If a person is a good criminal they will get past your alarm system. What would you do then? What if a deranged phyco just kicked down your door and tried to kill your family? Then what?
 
Handguns & most other guns are banned in Australia - the police are the only ones we ever see with guns. One of the reasons we are a very peaceful country.
