It seems like today my faith is being attacked. It’s the day of the art walk where my work is being put up, I have a commission milestone I have to finish, and both of these things would be bearable, but now I’m getting pulled in two directions spiritually.

I get these guilt feelings about my Marian devotion, and that it is wrong, and I am having trouble discerning spirits, to see if this is the accuser or the Holy Spirit. When I’m at my weakest, there will come these powerful promptings that I’m not following God by becoming Catholic, but when I try to repent of my percieved error, there is no grace, just a vague sense that God will forgive me if I turn away from Catholicism. These promptings are incredibly strong, and act on all the times I didn’t act in good faith, all the times I didn’t follow the truth wherever it led.

Just from writing this, I can discern this is either my own mind, or something evil, so I just want to ask for prayer, that I would be faithful to the grace I’m given today.

I’m praying for you Bdonoho!

May God bless you in all you do.

Here’s my favorite verse from Proverbs 3:3
‘‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.’’

🙂

Joining in prayer for you today, that you will have peace of mind in your decisions.
God bless you.

PRAYER TO
SAINT MICHAEL
THE ARCHANGEL

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen…

O glorious prince St. Michael,
chief and commander of the heavenly hosts,
guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits,
servant in the house of the Divine King
and our admirable conductor,
you who shine with excellence
and superhuman virtue deliver us from all evil
, who turn to you with confidence
and enable us by your gracious protection
to serve God more and more faithfully every day.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and
snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God, thrust into hell satan, and
all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

I will pray for you. Here is my favorite prayer when I am discouraged or confused . It always seems to set my mind right and give me peace. I hope it can help you also.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I Place My Trust in Thee

O sacred heart of Jesus, I place my trust in thee,
Whatever may befall me, Lord, though dark the hour may be;
In all my woes, in all my joys, though nought but grief I see,
O sacred heart of Jesus, I place my trust in thee.

When those I loved have passed away, and I am sore distressed,
O sacred heart of Jesus, I fly to thee for rest.
In all my trials, great or small, my confidence shall be
Unshaken as I cry, dear Lord, I place my trust in thee.

This is my one sweet prayer, dear Lord, my faith, my trust, my love,
But most of all in that last hour, when death points up above,
O sweet savior, may thy face smile on my soul all free.
Oh may I cry with rapturous love, I’ve placed my trust in thee.

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to Bdonoho’s assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end
Amen.

Praying for you.

Dear Lord, during this trial,
I offer up to you my confusion
Give me clarity
I offer up to you my despair
Give me hope
I offer up to you my weakness
Give me strength
I offer up to you my pettiness
Give me generosity of spirit.
I offer up to you all my
Negative thoughts from Satan
So that when he asks ‘Where is Your God now?”
I may respond “Right here with me, giving me His grace
As a Heavenly beam of light penetrating your darkness!"

Holy Michael the Archangel defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the Power of God,
thrust down to hell satan and all the wicked spirits,
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession and was left forsaken. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my words, O Mother of the Word, but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen

Thank you all for your prayers. Last night went by ok. It was a very good experience, that taught me more about following God, though I was definitely tempted to doubt that I was really following the Holy Spirit. By the Grace of God, I still am hoping that this period is a time of pruning that I can be faithful during. I deeply appreciate your prayers, and I want to keep all of you in mine.

Sincerely,
Brent

Praying.

I think that part of discerning spirits is not about feeling or senses. It is about thinking about the facts and evidence and doing research to see what the truth is about the matter–of Marian devotions for example. Look at what the different sides of the issue are and the arguments they use to support their respective cases.

I have such a deep respect and sense of indebtedness to the prayer warriors on this site. They reflect the saints in thier intercession, and yet they still must fight with the Church Militant against temptation and vice. They are like generals and officers, yet they do not do thier work in tents or war rooms but in the din of battle, more terrible in thier kneeling stillness than the active fighters, praying as Devils assault them and angels protect them. Though they are still , they send out beacons of light that call down the white-hot ordinance of Heaven on the most ruinous armies and strongest fortresses of hell. As an Artist I feel inspired to depict something like this. Thank you all for your courage and charity. I am convicted to emulate it.
