Ed is 100% correct. Some on here have a different impression, yet you get first hand testimony from a guy who lived through it and you dismiss it. Typical of believing what you want to no matter what.

Women in the workplace after the “revolution” took jobs away from working dads. Then a lot of these dad’s wives may be forced to work if they want a big family and the guy is a blue collar guy. It’s a simple fact. In many cases, high paying jobs when these women do not need the money. They are typically career women who forewent a family to climb the corporate ladder or else wives working so the couple can get the third flat screen TV and build a pool in the backyard.

If it was so much better back then, live like it. Put your money where your mouth is. Get off the computer. Demand you wife not work. Call children who have special needs terrible names. Go to hospitals in North Korea and Cuba, you know, ones that are back in that time period as well. Don’t watch anything but three basic channels.

Don’t be a hypocrite about talking about bad things are while your enjoying some modern technologies. At least live what you preach.

My mother had a sixth grade education. She came here from a foreign country. She had no high school diploma. The same with my dad except he had a seventh grade education.

I have told people today, the following: don’t waste big money on the honeymoon. If you can’t afford a home, get an apartment. The lovely wife of a close friend told me the following “Please tell him to stop buying me this stuff. We can’t afford it.” Poor guy. He wanted his wife to have nice (expensive) things. Thank God she helped him out of that notion so they could start a family.

A friend of mine did go to Serbia to find a bride. The first thing she did when she got here was buy six pairs of jeans.

Peace,
Ed
Ed, I respect your experience fully. But fact of the matter is the situation today is different. I was raised not to buy anything just because I can buy anything. Although I have had my share of stupid purchases, I always look back on them and learn from it. I hardly keep any credit card debt, I make sure that what we buy is what we can afford every month. In fact, the only reason I use credit cards is to have that credit history for the mortgage, and also I find it more efficient to pay for stuff. I lose more money when I get coins that I will eventually use. With credit cards the money is transferred electronically so I do not have coins that I will lose. Every cent goes where it is intended.

And like I said, we do have some luxury items at home but not a lot. We even haven’t decorated yet, my walls are still bare, because we can’t spare the cash. Because I do not want to put them on a credit card and not pay them at the end of the month. So we wait when we actually have the disposable income to pay for decorations.

Is this not modest enough in today’s world? And both me and my wife are professionals, college degree and all. We make a good amount of money today, and yet its still not enough.

I know life is so ironic as it is. My wife has to work so we can afford child care. But if she stays at home and cares for our child, we don’t have enough money for our expenses.

hypocrite labels and be nice sigs

🍿
That wasn’t an insult. Just a statement. There was nothing pejorative in what I said.

That’s cool though. Because my statement says “Be nice” it really means I can’t defend myself or my ideas, because somewhat might think it’s “mean”.

No, not sexual. I think you know what I meant.

But, in case you don’t, I mean the “piling on”. The clique-like one liner ad-hominem slurs which are so much easier than disagreeing with someone and explaining why. “Atta boy” back pats that are out of line and in violation of forum rules. Which, as they pertain to what I’m speaking of, are no secret.

Honestly, I’ve been guilty of it too in the past, but for some here it seems second nature. Every thread has an easy target. So easy to play Rambo from the comfort and safety of the man cave.

That’s what I meant.
At least you’re not vulgar.

I was pointing out ed’s clear hypocrisy. That is fully within the rules. He’s an easy target because his posts are weak, and he is engaging in an argument that he can’t really defend. It’s no one’s fault but his.

I am fully aware of the rules and report folks every time I am called a pedophile, Satan-worshipper, beast-lover, etc. Telling Ed that his claim is hypocritical (or telling anyone this) is fine.

You don’t have to apologize to anyone. You are doing what you think is best. It’s not easy for anyone.

Indeed. The option is fully available to anyone who would so choose.
I guess I’m the only one who find it funny that people talk about the good old days over the internet. Which wasn’t around back in the ::ahem:: “good old days”.
