What about the view that there are two genders - masculine, defined as initiation, and feminine, defined as response. Sex uses the distinct concepts of male and female, which are masculine and feminine as applied to the special case of reproductive biology.

I first read something like this from Ann Barnhardt [Why Priests Must Be Men Part 1 of 3 | Barnhardt], but she is not the originator of the concept, which fixes the problem of the general concept of gender lacking precise definitions.

[Note also I do not endorse many of Barnhardt’s later posts related to the papacy, but she has produced much of value earlier. I advise increasingly extreme viewer discretion the closer you read to the present.]

Hmmmm - don’t know if you are playing here or not…

Did Eve have a different reproductive system than Adam?

I used binary thinking in the two related examples of sex and gender only, explaining the latter as initiation vs. response.

I think that binary thinking is correct in some contexts, even if it may be incorrect in others. If you don’t use binary thinking, good luck trying to understand some things like God vs. Creation.

xxy, xyy,
In those situations, wouldn’t Y make the individual lean male at the very least?
Go to our chemical constituents
I don’t know about that. Having the same types of atoms or groups of atoms and in the same ratios doesn’t mean they have the same functions. The bonds, arrangement and connectivity of atoms or groups of them give the overall molecules completely different functions.
And where does thymine fit into that?

So then what do I say to a person who believes that they should be able to act like the opposite sex and change their body parts to match the opposite sex?
That it’s not possible, ‘sex reassignment surgery’ or whatever other term they use for it, cannot make them a woman or vice versa, it can only mutilate their body to give the appearance of the opposite sex. And mutilate it in such a way that not only can they not become the opposite sex, but in some cases cannot even restore what they mutilated.

So the question is, what do they plan to ‘transition’ into? since it’s not possible for it to be the opposite sex.

I hope this has helped

God Bless You

Identify as an attack helicopter and demand that they respect your gender.
lol, I do that especially when google and youtube put up ‘other’ genders to choose from (Youtube refers to me as commander and chief), so I can expose their idiocy, but not when dealing with someone who is suffering from gender dysphoria. Just for those defending sex reassignment surgery and the like because those people are of sound mind and health and are playing on people suffering from gender dysphroia, promising them things they cannot ever deliver.

God Bless You

Thank you for reading.

Gender Theory is the latest bit of nonsense to be foisted on the public by the Left. If there is physical sexual ambiguity at birth, only the doctor and the parents have a say. Aside from that, having been involved in some sub-cultures, they are here one day and gone the next. And this is also something that stems from Radical Feminism.

"2. Recent years have seen new approaches to women’s issues. A first tendency is to emphasize strongly conditions of subordination in order to give rise to antagonism: women, in order to be themselves, must make themselves the adversaries of men. Faced with the abuse of power, the answer for women is to seek power. This process leads to opposition between men and women, in which the identity and role of one are emphasized to the disadvantage of the other, leading to harmful confusion regarding the human person, which has its most immediate and lethal effects in the structure of the family.

“A second tendency emerges in the wake of the first. In order to avoid the domination of one sex or the other, their differences tend to be denied, viewed as mere effects of historical and cultural conditioning. In this perspective, physical difference, termed sex, is minimized, while the purely cultural element, termed gender, is emphasized to the maximum and held to be primary. The obscuring of the difference or duality of the sexes has enormous consequences on a variety of levels. This theory of the human person, intended to promote prospects for equality of women through liberation from biological determinism, has in reality inspired ideologies which, for example, call into question the family, in its natural two-parent structure of mother and father, and make homosexuality and heterosexuality virtually equivalent, in a new model of polymorphous sexuality.”

I think you say that it is their decision how they act, and that they should be treated respectfully however they act. But what is the context? Is this person asking you advice? If so, I would suggest that acting in those ways – and especially making those permanent changes – is not going to make this person any happier or more fulfilled. I tend to believe that the desire to be the opposite sex arises from some very deep wounding in childhood – though that’s probably not something you want to say, unless you have some evidence to work with AND you are itching for a fight. It’s generally better just to lovingly suggest that this avenue of decision-making isn’t something that you believe is good for the person. At least, that’s been my experience.

Thanks that’s what I wanted to know!

APA researcher explodes myth: Gays aren’t ‘born that way’ APA researcher explodes myth: Gays aren’t ‘born that way’ | News | LifeSite
Even if it were true that gay people aren’t born that way, contrary to what the author of the above article implies, that doesn’t mean that they can voluntarily change their orientation. According to the Wikipedia article about Dr. Lisa Diamond whose work the author cites:
In her studies of sexual fluidity, she has found that many women report variability in their sexual orientation identity. Diamond is clear that sexual orientation is not chosen, but that identity can shift non-voluntarily for some women.[2][5] The sexually fluid women she studied did not “experience those changes as willful”, and some even resist them.[5] Diamond says that conversion therapy cannot remove same-sex attraction.[

I was just responding to the study to which buffalo posted a link. You’ll have to ask him why he posted it in this thread.[

Sometimes there’s xxy. For example when I calico cat is born and it is male. Most are female because the alleles are on the x chromosome. But I don’t think that applies to what you are talking about. Just thought I would mention it.

The article is pretty much Dr. McHugh’s opinions. Here is what McHuch’s peers say about opinions:

It is true that transgendered youth have many problem and here’s why:
Psychiatric Concerns in Transgender Youth

While transgender youth may present with the full range of psychiatric disorders common to their age group, their mental health issues may be compounded by long struggles with gender dysphoria, discrimination, stigma, and sometimes trauma.

A recent national survey of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals (6,450 respondents from all 50 states) found that 41% of respondents reported attempting suicide, compared with 1.6% of the general population.

Of the 41% who attempted suicide, rates rose for those who had been victims of discrimination, harassment, and assault (National Center for Transgender Equality and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, 2011, available at http://bit.ly/1teXC7Y).
Oppose same-sex sexual behavior and transgenderism if that is your conviction, but don’t tell LGBT and transgendered people that they have mental disorders, that they don’t have any rights and their very existence is against God’s design and then tell them in the next breath that your statement to that effect is “an expression of love” for them.

It is better to lie to them and enable their behavior. ☹️ Ignore Jesus’ instructions of fraternal correction. True Christian charity demands fraternal correction.

Great replies to this thread! In addition to other’s replies, point out that there are only two genders in the Bible. Any gender other than male or female is clearly manmade and repugnant to the Word of the true and Living God.

Edit: Sorry buffalo, I have no idea why it says I was replying to you. Just meant to make a regular post.
