Received on the tongue for the first time today

Sounds mighty interesting! I suppose that women could not touch It directly because this was to be an added “punishment” for all women’s “unworthiness” because of Eve’s sin? Eve caused us all a heap of trouble, but then I probably would not have acted any differently. 😊

Genesis 3:16
To the woman He said:
“I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception;
In pain you shall bring forth children;

1 Timothy 2:15
Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.

However, since we do have proof of Holy Communion in the hand in the ECF’s own writings, I’ll continue to go with that proof rather than Fr. Mitch’s, however much I admire him. 🙂 Did they have “gloves” 1700 years ago? Perhaps this was an “invention” of the Middle Ages?
Fr. Mitch was interviewing an expert in this area. They received in the hand for very different reasons, and in very different ways. But whatever, I’ve long since given up that anyone here wants to listen to the truth.

Even Slick Billy takes Communion on the tongue!

😃 I like this picture. It shows the limitation of photos as tools of debate. “See. Receiving on the tongue is a tool of unfaithful priests.” or “If he does surely faithful Catholics should be willing.”

Or maybe I was just joking because this whole argument is stupid.

Because receiving on the tongue is superior to receiving in the hand, no matter what you say. And every time you receive in the hand you are being incredibly disrespectful to the Host.

Does that clarify things?

Since you have no authority to define a single thing, since you do not know me enough to slander me like you did, it only reflects on the type of person you are. You know, that whole “by their fruits you will know them” thing.

You’re still here? I’ll say again:

You can use the whole “you disagree with me and speak your mind frankly, so you are evil/mean/going to hell/judging me.”

Yawn.

Communion on the tongue is superior to Communion in the hand.

(Oh, and “slander” is untruthful speech. Since you take Communion in the hand, and since it is disrespectful [as there are particles that drop to the ground that would not, had you taken on the tongue], what I said was not slander)

Truthful? You state “there are particles that drop to the ground”. You claim to know much. You have seen particles I have dropped to the ground. Then you can also answer easier questions. Where do I sit at Mass? Which side do I receive communion on? What type of wafer do we use? WIne? If your knowledge incompasses knowing I have dropped particles, then these should be a snap.

These nuns like Communion in the hand

Okkk let’s try this again

Like I said earlier in this thread, Jimmy Akin had on his website pictures of someone in black gloves taking an unconsecrated host in his hands. after picking up the host and placing it in his mouth, there were lots of particles that would not have fallen.

This will happen. It is inevitable.

But it is not. I have looked. Every time I look. I have never seen the slightese, the smallest speck in my hand. I will try to find the article you describe and see if it says what hosts they use.

I will tell you what. I will replicate this experriment in a couple of weeks and report back. However, I will not use a close up lens or microscope or cloth gloves (as one person did).

Are you sure? do you have magnifying vision?

why? because The Whole Christ isn’t important?

Why do you think the Church adopted such measures in the past? Because it didn’t matter, or because it did?

And why, all of a sudden, does it cease to matter?

Is it because the whole focus of the NO has changed? Or at least shifted?

No, rather because some microscopic particles can always be lost, even in the air and even when receiving on the tongue. These however do not have the appearance of bread. Like evaporating wine no longer maintains the appearance of wine. I will use a dark glove and my glasses. That should give adequate visibility. Also, when replicating an experiment, one follows the same technique.

I had my first communion earlier this year. (yes - I’m a 50 year old heathen that was finally called to repent and convert - Thank God!). I had decided to receive my first communion in the hand (I think because I wanted to look at it). I discussed it with my wife who told me about the tiny particle residue that could be left behind, but stubbornly I insisted that I would still receive in my hand.

So now the time had come. I was pretty nervous and had asked St Joseph and Blessed Mother to accompany me as I approached down the aisle in anticipation of receiving the Blessed Sacrement. When the Host was presented - “The Body of Christ”, without thinking I said “Amen”, opened my mouth, tilted my head back, and received on the tongue.

I guess my subconcious didn’t want to even think of the possibility of one particle escaping and blaspheming the good God. I’m glad I did it that way and I will never receive any other way. Why take the chance? 👍

But the Church does allow receiving on the hand, so I do not judge other people who choose to receive that way.

As can be seen maurin --there already is a grievous error being promoted. This is not the first time I have seen this “belief”. Here I will say --I am not attribution this error to pnewton —but communion in the hand does in a way --speak to it.
Jesus didn’t seem to be worried about crumbs when he told the disciples to take and eat. He never said, “Stick out your tongue while I put this in your mouth.” If it was good enough for Jesus, I don’t see any problem with it.

I have seen many Masses on TV and via other media. As of yet --I have not seem anyone actually check their hands for any loose particles which may be left behind. The Sacred Host is placed in the palm of the recipient --from there the Sacred Host is taken via the other hand and place in the mouth and the person goes on their way–without given a second look to their hands.

Here is what Fr. Serpa says:
Certainly, if one dilutes the Host or the Precious Blood so that the is no longer the appearance of bread or wine, the Lord’s Body and Blood are no longer present. But otherwise, the Real Presence remains.
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=191199&highlight=appearance

I am still researching this topic, but if molecules do not maintain the real presence, the host has it, there must be a dividing line somewhere. We know time is irrelevant. Appearance seems the criteria for judging such things.
