Carol, I think you’re being a little over the top. What the heck is wrong with you people! You are totally proving what the OP said about you and this website is true. This is terrible. Who are you to call someone immature?
This is how you show the love of God? I am ashamed of this website at this moment.
I think almost everyone here is making this about money EXCEPT the OP. I notice people on this website jump to conclusions and judge people by what they read into their posts. It is really strange, as if you think you actually have met this person or are mind readers. Get a life and stop pretending like you are living someone else’s.
Okay - so now you can talk about what I said as if you really know me, which you don’t. So I don’t care. As long as you leave her alone, because it just really ticks me off that she is being judged.
The OP said she doesn’t want to pay for a reception. She does want to pay for a honeymoon trip to Disneyworld. It’s fine to want a honeymoon to Disneyworld. That would be great, and a lot of fun. But a couple who invites people to their wedding, to celebrate with them, then doesn’t thank their guests, and then goes on an expensive wedding trip, is going to insult people. That’s the truth of it.
I can appreciate that it takes a long time to save up for a trip like that. But it is expected, when you invite people to celebrate with you, that you thank them for coming. The OP insinuated that that expectation is somehow a lack of proper understanding of our faith - rude in and of itself - and also false. If you invite people to a birthday party, you don’t have them come in the door, drop off their gift, sing you “Happy Birthday,” and then hustle them out the door. If you can’t afford to host them, you don’t invite them to your birthday party.
The bride and groom are free to have a wedding with no guests, even if they had the means for a reception for 500 with all the works. But if they want to invite people, they should show some way of thanking them, and there have been several excellent suggestions on this thread of how to do that without putting too much of a hit on the Disney fund.
I may have missed this, but has the OP actually asked anyone to help pitch in with the reception cost? Even if it’s just coffee and donuts in the church hall afterwards?
