I am a book worm like no tomorrow
I was wondering if there were any books on Traditional Catholicism that would be a good read. Thank you!

I also would recommend anything by the late Michaels Davies. Many of his writings are available at Angelus Press.![]()

Actually, Rahner is not a bad read. I studied his works and found him fascinating. In fact, Pope Benedict uses a lot of his material in his own writings, especially in his ecclesiology.Karl Rahner as a recommendation for traditional Catholicism ?
Some pretty radical works there Mick.
Are you looking for books about the present-day popular movement within the Church toward a recovery of traditional liturgy, piety, spirituality; or that are written from the perspective of tradition-minded Catholics analyzing events and trends in the Church since the beginning of the Vatican II era?I am a book worm like no tomorrowI was wondering if there were any books on Traditional Catholicism that would be a good read. Good question and good distinctionsAre you looking for books about the present-day popular movement within the Church toward a recovery of traditional liturgy, piety, spirituality; or that are written from the perspective of tradition-minded Catholics analyzing events and trends in the Church since the beginning of the Vatican II era?
Or are you looking for books that self-described Traditional/ist Catholics believe to exemplify traditional Catholic treatments of subjects like the Mass and Sacraments, personal prayer, etc.?
Awesome suggestions, but you forgot one other great work which another CAF member recently posted about here in the TC forum:Good question and good distinctions
If you want classics I would suggest:
Introduction to the Devout Life
The Way of Pefection
Immitation of Christ
ā¦
I read it, but it bored me. Thatās why I did not put it on my list. Itās a great work and certainly a classic. It just was not my style of writing. I can give you my entire reading list from seminary. They were all good works. Some are just easier reading than others and some move along, while others drag on and on and on.Awesome suggestions, but you forgot one other great work which another CAF member recently posted about here in the TC forum:
Practice and Perfection of Christian Virtues
In Two Volumes: Volume 1, Volume 2
by Fr. Alphonsus Rodriguez, S.J.
Iām partial to that one as it had a profound effect on me, but by all means itās a classic that deserves to be re-promoted in our age thatās so lost touch with Catholic tradition.
You want to begin with the life of St. Francis. I loved The Perfect Joy of St. Francis. It reads like a novel. Then there is the biography written by St. Bonaventure, St. Francis of Assisi. I warn you, itās translated in Victorian English. There is another translation that I have not read, which is actually three of his works in one. They say that itās standard British English.Thank you kindly for all of your responses. I really appreciate it. Oh and Br. JR I would thoroughly enjoy seing what you studied in seminary. Also if you would recommend any books on Franciscan teachings, I would enjoy that as well. I am currently looking more into the Franciscan way of life in terms for laypeople for me and my husband. Again thank you all![]()
Sure. Personality, temperament, personal tastes, educational background ā all these can affect our individual response to one work vs. another, while we can still appreciate things on a more objective level.I read it, but it bored me.
