Whether or not one is favor of recruiters on campus grounds or not, the list of organizations provided by the link for the article below backing their banning does give one pause for thought…

“…A coalition of far-Left organizations that includes avowed “revolutionary communists,” Islamists, marriage-abolitionists, and cop-killer advocates has launched a crusade against the U.S. military – and San Francisco school children could get caught in the crossfire. An organization known as “College Not Combat” seeks to place a resolution before Bay City voters on the November ballot, declaring “that the people of San Francisco oppose U.S. military recruiters using public school, college and university facilities to recruit young people into the armed forces.” The non-binding measure would encourage the city’s high schools to deny military recruiters access to their student directories, from which recruiters attempt to find new volunteers. Such an action, undertaken in the name of “the children,” would constitute a violation of section 9528 of the “No Child Left Behind” Act and could end up denying the offending schools access to government funds…”

“…Now the Hate America Left is reviving the successful tactic is took in fighting the Patriot Act and federal immigration policy: ignoring federal law. With “lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification,” anti-American activists has taken to the city and precinct level to overturn the law of the land. The Radical Left hopes to first take its case to friendly, left-wing school districts and city councils, building up a “critical mass” of endorsers, before going mainstream. Counter-recruiter organizations have already told their activists which kinds of arguments to use in conservative vs. liberal areas. One such group says in conservative areas, the “most effective issues” are “student & family privacy, government intrusion on the lives of students, and truth about military service. An anti-military or anti-Bush approach may be very harmful to the campaign.” The radicals hope this facetious attempt to be all things to all men will help press its case against the “occupational” U.S. military…”

A military career was once viewed as honorable by Democrats.

Kicking the ROTC off campus in the 1960s was one step in ensuring the party would no longer be a majority party.

This is an old trick. Cite some group or groups on the furthest fringe, then imply that these groups are are the most influential backers of the cause in question. It’s like saying the KKK supports the nomination of Judge Roberts to the Supreme Court, so we can therefore draw “appropriate” conclusions about the views of Judge Roberts.

Another thing that gives one pause for thought is the dismal current state of American conservatism, as evidenced by the author’s comments.

It wasn’t long ago that conservatives would actively campaign to defeat such intrusive Federal legislation as No Child Left Behind. Today’s version of conservative actively works to defeat those who might subvert NCLB.

Democrats can’t use the “well those people are way out on the extreme and have nothing to do with us” dodge anymore.

Not after what Senator Dick Durban said about the military.

Unfortunately, the anti-military sentiment is shared by a substantial percentage of democrats in the US–It is not a fringe view among democrats.

As I have said before, I think every American high-school graduate, men and women both, should be required to serve at least three years in the armed forces before they are permitted to go to college. Or in other words, you don’t go in the service, you don’t go to college. Simple as that.

My personal opinion.

I think naming 25 or so of these assorted groups is not some trick…I think it gives a rather clear definition of the movement.

AFSCME is one of the most important unions in the Democratic coalition. When Brian Becker of the Workers World Party (which supports North Korea and Cuba) organized the first anti-war protests in D.C., AFSCME locals were marching in solidarity with him.

And that was months before the war in Iraq began.

Any private school that doesn’t accept Gov funds can do what they want I suppose.

But darn it. Any school getting any public money should not be allowed to keep ROTC or recruiters out.
ROTC also has a responsibility to conduct themselves properly. If they do not it is not up to the school to due the reprimanding it is up to proper authority.
