I think Luther was foolish. John 16:13 clearly states that the Holy Spirit will guide the church into all truth. It is stupid to assume that for nearly 1500 years the Holy Spirit had not been able to convey to the church as to which books belonged to the Bible and which did not (and especially since he believed Sola Scriptura was true). That’s absurd! That’s idiocy!
It says that the Holy Spirit will guide those that poses it, those that have received it, not a church.
Those born of the Spirit are the church it is stupid to presume that a church by earthly definition is the procurator of salvation, whether it be a man or an institution.
Your interchangeable use of the word church is wrong. Your presumption about this Spirit guiding only the Apostles into truth and teaching is also wrong. Though the CC would like everyone to think that this universal gift to all born again Christians is the exclusive property of the CC.
1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will[e] abide in Him.
1 Cor 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body[c] and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Heb 9:11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come,[a] with the greater and more
perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
2 Tim 4:17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be
preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear.
