That’s irrelevant since the invention of isotopic dating.but the actual age of the earth could be anything. in the early 1900’s geologists were working hard to prove noah’s flood and a young earth but i think geologists today may be a bit embarrassed by that historical fact and perhaps have swept all aside to embrace a long age earth of constant gradual processes. but there is really no scientific reason to suppose that cataclysmic processes could not occur on earth quickly, rather than slowly.

The oldest known terrestrial rocks have an age about 4.2 billion years. The oldest lunar rocks are about 4.5 billion years old, same as meteorites. The reason Earth rocks are slightly younger is that this is time since the rock has solidified from lava – after the moon-forming impact, Earth, being bigger, cooled slower than the Moon.
Regarding the age of the Universe, a very simple calculation from the Hubble constant (assuming that the universe is, and always has been, uniformly expanding) yields about 15 billion years.

Current best estimate of the age of Universe using more advanced methods (and more complicated cosmology) is 13.7 billion years.
