I light a votive candle beside the blessed virgin Mary for the Holy souls about 5 or 6 days a week.
I’m wondering who else routinely lights one for a specific intention?

In my parish people light them regularly on Sundays and Solemnitys, yet during the week there is only few who are faithful to this practice.

I’ve seen people put a pocket full or change into the offering box and never light a candle, it’s wonderful to see this, as they are supporting the fund for the people who can’t afford an offering. I also have seen young people come before morning Mass light a candle and leave, most likely to make it to school in time.

It’s quite a beautiful experience to watch and wonderful to see them still burning hours later on days I return to the church.

Sometimes they may be paying for candles they have lit in the past when they didn’t have the money. I know I have lit candles when I had no cash on me, or only had some big bill, and I paid for it later by sending an online donation to the church.

The local parish here where I moved has electric candles 😦 not the same. There is a donation slot and a knob you either press or twist on…they flicker. I felt so foolish going up to light one and realized they are fake candles. Even their outside grotto has them. I do keep a candle lit at my home altar. They are real, beeswax, sweet smelling.

That’s very true, but it’s the same fellow about once a week who I see do this, he’s at all the Masses I attend. What a blessed man he is.

I am not really allowed to have a burning candle for that long a period in my apartment. Fake candles are really an only option. Sadly, but I understand.
