Reike and the Catholic Church

I don’t see a question so I am not sure what you are looking for.

Reike is one of many new age practices that have raised “red flag” from the Church all the way to the Vatican. In spite of that, many Catholics and retreat centers practice/teach it. No big surprise. Many Catholics go to women’s ordinations and pray to the “goddess within”.

There are many confused Catholics just as there are many confused people of other faiths.

I don’t really have a question…I’m just thankful to see that the Church clearly rejects Reike. As you mentioned…there are many confused Catholics. Stories like this help to draw a clearer picture for those who might otherwise be led astray.

Thank you for posting this. I would urge all Catholics of any age to find out first what the Church teaches about any new practice. Be informed. That way, your trust will not be abused and you can spare yourself some problems down the road.

Peace,
Ed

That’s why I try to stay with the more traditional practices of the Church. There is so much diversity in devotions that have been approved by the Vatican, why would we need to bring in this strange, foreign garbage?

I’m sure I already know the answer. The evil one wants to infiltrate and get us to put our focus on ourselves, rather than God and others. To everyone who has ever tried this stuff, I suggest you stop where you are and devote yourself somewhere where you’re spiritually safe in catholicism. This practice is a slippery slope and spiritually perilous.

**LAURI LUMBY SCHMIDT: **Some people, I think, find comfort in the perceived security of a black and white theology, and Reiki doesn’t fit within that black and white theology, and so in those kinds of situations there tends to be judgment, there tends to be fear, there tends to be reaction.
Quoted for Truth.

Reike, Enneagrams, Therapeutic Touch… Why are so many - especially nuns - attracted to this sort of garbage? Why not phrenology?

My favorite is purple crystals. They are certainly the source of true power. No doubt from ancient wisdom of the Sumerians the chi is channeled through the power prism to adjust the aura, balance the universe and correct all the fung shui errors found in Catholic buildings.

OOOOOO I can feel the ancient wisdom working through my inner being as I type!!!

And what do you say it is?
Thanks for bringing up Reiki, Beautiful! We have all we need in Jesus Christ and His teachings to soothe our psyche and raise our spirit. Why mess around with the occult? Pursuing the occult sciences is a dead end road. You keep studying and studying and studying and what is the end result? Nothing! Another fork-in-the-road. There is no end in sight. One study leads to another one and another one and another one. That’s futility and another rhyming word that starts with s…
Matthew 7:13“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to* life***, and those who find it are few.

How little worthy of any love thou art. Whom wilt thou find to love ignoble thee,
Save me, save only me? All which I took from thee, I did’st but take, Not for thy harms,
But just that thou might’st seek it in my arms.
As far as some old Catholic institutions, both concrete and human, pursuing Reiki, well, Jesus foresaw that on the Cross also when He said "Father forgive them for they know not what they do".

And what about John 10.1? Did this not also refer to the occult sciences?

John 10:1- I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. …When He has brought out all his own, He goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow Him because they know his voice. *But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice…*He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.

and finally, **Reiki is not the name above all other names, Jesus Christ, the son of God, is.

**
Phillipians2:10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Ephesians 1:20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

And what do you say it is?
Did you read the article linked above?

*In Reiki, “practitioners place their hands on or above someone in an effort to enhance the body’s flow of energy. They say that can lead to physical and spiritual healing.” *

Reiki is a Buddhism-derived practice that claims some type of unverifiable “life force” exists & can be manipulated by certain techniques.

Not only does Reiki lack any scientific credibility, it cannot be considered “divine healing” since for the Reiki practitioner, the healing power is at human disposal.

To summarize:

*"Reiki therapy finds no support either in the findings of natural science or in Christian belief. For a Catholic to believe in Reiki therapy presents insoluble problems. In terms of caring for one’s physical health or the physical health of others, to employ a technique that has no scientific support (or even plausibility) is generally not prudent.

In terms of caring for one’s spiritual health, there are important dangers. To use Reiki one would have to accept at least in an implicit way central elements of the worldview that undergirds Reiki theory, elements that belong neither to Christian faith nor to natural science. Without justification either from Christian faith or natural science, however, a Catholic who puts his or her trust in Reiki would be operating in the realm of superstition, the no-man’s-land that is neither faith nor science."*
