I have two questions for those who believe in reincarnation, whether they’re New Age, Hindu, or anything else. It is my understanding that we learn from our past lives and as we go through many lives, we improve in virtue until we finally achieve Nirvana. Question One: How do we learn from past lives we have no recollection of? Question Two: Why would someone naturally improve with time? There’s plenty of people who get worse as they age or stay the same or go back and forth. Couldn’t that be the same across multiple lifetimes? Those questions are based on my understanding, or I should say lack of understanding, of reincarnation. Thanks in advance for any replies.

You wouldn’t learn anything from something you don’t remember, obviously. It makes no $#@%ing sense. So don’t believe it.

The entire theory of “life is a school” and “leveling up” with each incarnation until you achieve enlightenment and get to leave this existence is bull$#!+.

Very true, this. 👍

The way I see it is you just wouldn’t be you if you could reincarnate. Suppose someone died and “came back” to his family as another person. They would probably never know, and even if the person told them he is the same man who died, what good would it do.

The Holy, Precious Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ is enough for one life of ours.

I don’t now whether there really is such a thing as reincarnation or not but seems to me that belief in it has been around for many thousands of years. Many more than belief in the Christian Trinity so there must be something to it. I mean geez folks all the people in the different ancient traditions that believe in reincarnation can’t all be wrong can they?
At least this is what I hear about Christianity. Number of years it has been around and the number of believers. It has been around 2000 years so it has to be the Truth. Really 2000 years? That is nothing. Buddhism I believe has been around longer or at least as long. Hinduism certainly longer than Christianity and the same with Judaism. I
I don’t know whether it is once and done or we have multiple tries and personally I don’t really think it matters. Live life as if it is once and done as long as it is living for the benefit of others and I believe that it all that matters.
Thank you for reading. 🙂

Nirvana is a Buddhist concept. The (approximate) Hindu, Jain and Sikh equivalents are different.

I am Buddhist, so my answers reflect the Buddhist approach. Hindus etc. may answer differently.
Question One: How do we learn from past lives we have no recollection of?
Your past lives influence your current life. The fact that you are aware of Buddhism and can access knowledge of Buddhism is an indication of good karma from previous lives. You are living on earth, where is is less difficult to attain nirvana, even without Buddhism, than in other places. The heavens are too pleasant. The hells are too unpleasant. The earth is the right mix of pleasant and unpleasant while not being too distracting.
Question Two: Why would someone naturally improve with time?
They don’t. To quote the financial adverts, “The value of your virtue may go down as well as up.” There are hells, so if you get too overdrawn on your virtue you will be reincarnated in one of them.

Virtue (or good karma) will only get you so far. It will get you a very pleasant existence in one of the heavens or a pleasant existence on earth. To attain nirvana, meditation is needed. Virtue is a necessary prerequisite for successful meditation, but it is not sufficient on its own.

Hello DeoVindice,
Code:
Sorry for the late reply. I just got back from camping where I did my very first fire walk. Yea Mee.
I believe in the version of Reincarnation outlined in the Edgar Cayce material and based on how I interpret this information.
  1. It is our belief that something from the experience is retained. In other words the soul remembers. The way I understand it with each experience, each decision we make we are training what we call our conscience. As we do something, Karma (Karma and reincarnation are like two peas in the same pod. You have to believe in both or neither.)good or bad provides the lesson which our soul learns.
  2. EC gave life readings for people (information on there past lives). He would say some people gained and some people lost during past lives. The would lose based on self indulgence without a concern for how it harmed others. They gained by helping others. Each time Karma provides feedback to the soul, the soul retains it, and it manifests itself in our conscience.

I don't see the correlation between whether we have a single or multiple experiences on earth and the blood of Jesus.

The sacrifice of the Life of our Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true man has gained for us the grace, if we so choose, to be filled with Him in our one lifetime. He is our All…if we pick up our cross and follow Him.

I theoretically agree with you. It’s just my belief that if a person doesn’t become completely filled in a single lifetime that he will provided other opportunities to work things out.

If they die in the state of grace with the Lord, but yet are not completely with Him (such as Adam and Eve before the Fall), then there is the state of purification (Purgatory) . It is still one unique person, one life.

Hello Dorothy,
The originator of the thread had two questions concerning reincarnation. As a believer in a version of reincarnation I merely attempted to answer them. I know, and I'm sure everyone else here knows, that reincarnation is not a belief of Catholicism.
