Sorry low coffee happening…not are…😊😊😊 Area…Mea Culpa!

I don’t know many people here, but this community has 30,000 people and only one small Catholic church. My coworkers know nothing about Catholicism - like having a hot dog sale on Good Friday? It’s a fund raiser, so many will try to pressure me into buying one, even if I don’t eat it, just to give away (I’m a health food junkie), but when I tell them “I can’t, I’m Catholic & that’s Good Friday” they are very confused.

I’m originally from Houston, where it’s a good half & half and those who aren’t Catholic are very familiar with the culture. Pretty good relations there.

Well Texas is a unusual State, in a good way, pretty much every one who is Christian is Catholic or SBC! We are a miro Houston, in reflection of Demographic , Catholics and Protestants are around each other so much for so long, in the Lone Star…we have but 2 choices, join in helping the poor and needy, stand “co-belligerant” in the Culture of death (JP2) culture war or pull “daggers” in Big Eccentric Texas…in the MOST…we opt for the first. Thank you! for the post!🙂

One thing I SHOULD have made broader! Those who live outside the USA, thankfully not all places are as in Belfast! So! My Brethren from outside the US! I would love to have feedback from you! Mea Culpa! I worded it as to seem to limit it in the US! I would be blessed by your (name removed by moderator)ut! Thank You!🙂

COOL! I was nervous about my first Poll Thread! I have a DOA thread I started, 😊 and this was QUIET…for bit but I am glad to see reaction, it goes to my admiration of JP2 in working with Protestants in a “Culture of Death” his appeal was so Amazing, as we move towards Beatification I felt it a “tribute” to see if this Clarion Call still echoes.:cool::cool:

Feedback, lot of people here? No “feel” or “pulse” regarding the relations in respective areas?🍿🍿🍿

Ow. see one in which there is open rancor!)-: If (you are comfortable) and limit using specific individuals/churches (for obvious reasons) , why the negative dynamic, and discourse? It is holds curiosity to myself as Texas has both a large Catholic and Protestant presence (not saying there are no nutters here on either side) but…in “general” it has been mixed so long…going to our days as an independant Republic, most simply peacefully accept.

🍿🍿:popcorn:Anyone…class VODDO - ECONOMICS… (OK…aged myself with the Ferris quip);)

I think in the U.S. the political party one belongs to is more important than what religion!

It’s difficult to vote…There are those parishes that are very ecumenical in their outlook and life tof the parish…especially those parishes which some would consider “liberal”…but the priest calls it “socially aware”…you have those parishes extremely conservative and traditional…individual Catholics tend to be more flexible in sharing the Christian life with those outside Rome’s influence. I have only been acquainted with a couple parishes…and we worked on social concerns together…a Quaker in a Catholic volunteer organization was interesting at times.🙂

Here’s a very good example of how things are here. This happened today at the grocery store between a cashier and an older man:

Cashier: “Oh, are you a Mason?”
Man: “No ma’am, I’m a Catholic.”
Cashier: “No, I was talking about your ring. Is that a Masonic ring?”
Man: “No ma’am, that’s Knights of Columbus - been a member 40 years.”
Cashier: “Oh, it looked like a Masonic ring!”
Man: “No ma’am. They are a Catholic group.”
Cashier: “Oh, are you Irish?”
Man: “No ma’am, I’m Mexican.”

He was quite irritated with her, and she could not understand why. After he stormed off, she looked at the next person in line and just shrugged in confusion. I realized at that moment that this conversation would never have happened where I come from in Texas. I did feel a little bad for her - it was obvious that she couldn’t figure out what was so offensive about her questions or why he felt the need to proclaim that he is a Catholic.

Some people take offense to the almost anything. I would have not taken offense.

I live in Norman, OK which has about 120,000 people. Things here are OK I guess, the Protestants churches here are generally unwilling to work with us, but for the most part there is no open hostility from the better known denominations (Lutherans, Anglicans, Presbyterians , Methodists, and most Baptist churches.) However, there a decently sized handful of non-denom and Baptist churches which are stringently anti-Catholic.

I don’t think this is true in my neck of the woods. In Louisiana a lot of people are registered Democrat by tradition, but vote Republican by inclination. But when it comes to religion, you pretty much know who is Southern Baptist and who is Catholic and if you don’t know, they’ll be sure to tell you (and invite you to their service).

We do work together on some things…such as interfaith hospitality. But seeing as I’m a returning Catholic…from Protestantism…I’ve been told more then once to “be careful” and there are a “few” Catholics who are “saved”…which goes to show how little they know and what they truly think of us…it’s a little irritating…

We do have good relationships, perhaps because we are both minority in this muslim majority country. Some “small” branch of Lutheran/Calvinist evangelized heavily to attract Catholics and convert them. We do have Adventist, Jehovah witnesses, and the embrio of Mormonism. I am surprise to see at least 2 Mormon churches, one in Jakarta and one in Surabaya. Overall, we live in union to one another.

In Australia relations were cordial if a little distant, as they are in England. Oddly enough relations were best, warm and friendly, in Ireland (the south, that is).

There is an implcaied view amongst both communities here that, “we’d get along even better if the Vatican let us”.
