I don’t know much about relics but they are in my life this week. I just donated to the franciscan friary in Mount Vernon,NY and they sent me a St. Anthony medal with a piece of cloth in it I think. They said it was touched to a relic of St. Anthony. I have been classping it all week as I pray for my 2nd grader to pass her exams. She needs high grades to pass the year and is having a very hard time.

There is an unofficial shrine of St. Pio near my home and they are having relics displayed on Saturday and I am hoping to get off of work on time to get there to pray.
What other things do I do there? Do I touch the relic? Or just be in it’s presence? I have never been to a display of relics. I won’t have much time and I’ll probably be dirty from work so I really would like to know ahead of time what goes on there.
 
What are the expenses one face in order to obtain 1st class or 2nd class relics? I found some in 2nd class relics at aquinasandmore.com just for $1. I guess the payment was for the container or the holy card to which the relic is attached. Do postulator of Pope John Paul II’s cause still have some piece of his cassock? It was about 2 years ago that I asked for some through their website.

Well, the only relic I have, i.e. if it is considered a relic, is some towels and a prayerbook which I touched to the glass(?) encasing the reliquary of St. Therese of the Child Jesus during it’s visit to the Philippines last year.

The ones at AquinasandMore are 3rd class Relics ( Items touched to an actual Relic).

Yes I believe that they still distribute “Relics” (they are not real Relics until he is beatified) of John Paul II.

I my case, I reembursed the parish that owned the relic for the material value of the silver and gold of the reliquary.

The relic itself cannot be sold, but the artist who creates the reliquary is entitled to be paid for his work and the owner for the material value of the reliquary.

I believe that “Ex Carne” would be " Of the Flesh"

Where did you obtain such a precious reliquary?

Generally speaking, a piece of cloth that belonged to the person would be a second class, but the note said that it “adhered” to the body. If skin or dried blood were attached to the cloth (or soaked into the cloth), it would be a 1st class relic.
 
I went to the National Shrine for Padre Pio today on my way home from work and thought I was too late because they had relics there today. But I made it. And I asked a man if I was too late because it was empty. I didn’t even notice that he was holding a picture frame in his arms. The picture frame enclosed one of the brown gloves that St. Pio wore. The man told me that St. Pio wore many of these gloves and they are not very rare relics. He said that there are rarer ones that were white that he used for special things. He asked me if I wanted to pray with it and pressed it into my chest. I knelt in the pew with it and felt so very,very good holding it. I disappeared into prayer and felt so very,very good. It didn’t matter to meif it was rare or not. It was rare to me and ifeel so very lucky to have prayed with a glove and hold a glove that was worn by a saint. St. Pio,Thank you.

How does someone get these. I mean, I have a cross that belonged to an 18th Century Peruvian Archbishop, and that’s it. But, Aside from the veneration of the relics at my church, I’ve never had a chance to possess a relic.

I send Letters and Emails to the Postulator Generals of Religious Orders.
 
Please be aware of the Most Holy Nature of any Relic. Simony is a serious sin. There are Holy Relic rescue Ministries out there to assist in returning these Sacred Body parts, (1st Class), to the Church. Yes, Faith releases the Graces, however the True power of the Holy Relics come when They are in the hands of Priest, Bishop, Etc. I hate to sound like a overseer of information, however many Catholics are being lead astray through lack of good sound Doctrine. Last word, Guardianship of Holy Relics does happen, but they still belong to the Church. Shalom, Randy F.

I heard about an office at the Vatican that would send a first class relic to whomever wrote asking, back in the day when no one thought of putting it up on ebai.
That makes me feel alright about owning one. They wouldn’t have a vatican office sending them out if it meant disrespect to the saint or the church?

Just a question, what was the cost for shipping and the documents? I know the relic isn’t sold, but I think we are supposed to pay (donate?) for the value of the reliquary and cost of shipping and such.
