There is a dealer in Holy Relics on Ebay. Most of his Relics are 2nd and 3rd class. many have supposed “documentation”. I believe he lives in the Netherlands. Be prepared to spend lots of money for one as the competition for one is very high.

I cannot verify that he is a legitimate dealer. I just know of his offerings.

Let the buyer beware.
 
I have a reliquary with 1st class relics of:

St Paul of the Cross
St. Maria Goretti
St. Gemma Galgani
and one other Passionist Saint/Blessed

This has all proper documentation. I acquired it at a Passionist Monastery where I was retreating.

I also have a 2nd class relic of JPII.

You are very blessed to posses such an item. If I may ask , when was it obtained?
Relics are much harder to obtain now that 10 years ago.
I also have a 1st class relic of St. Paul of the Cross, along with 12 other Relics in my chapel.

P.S. Does your multi- relic theca have documents with it?
 
Are 1st class relics of St. Thomas Aquinas really rare? My college is names after him, and we only have a 2nd class relic and I would like to acquire a 1st class and donate it for veneration. If not him, I would really like to get one of some Dominican saint that I can donate.

I have a special devotion to St. Michael, and as much as I would love a relic of him, I don’t think that’s likely, seeing that he’s an archangel!

Here are some photos of the reliquary as well as the relics. Sorry they are a bit blurry, my camera wasn’t behaving. The relics are in the cross, which can be worn.

I paid $30 for this…the cost covering the reliquary and the costs in shipping and handling from Italy. I received this in October 2008

There are 6 first class relics…

Ex Ossibus St Vincent Strambi, St Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin

Don’t buy relics on Ebay - just don’t. Years ago when I reaffirmed my Catholic faith and was filled with ardor, I contacted a person purporting to be a “priest” on e-bay and asked for a 3rd class relic of Thomas Aquinas (in whos name I was confirmed in that year). He offered to get me a 1st class relic from the office in Rome for a price of $90. I accepted, and he mailed me the relic in a suspicously new looking theca with authentification documents that looked like they were xeroxed.

I did some investigation on the internet, and found that my particular relic was a fake. A shady organization based in the US southwest had been manufacturing the relics with phony wax seals and all and then altering genuine authentic documentation from other relics to match what they were selling.

I was duped, but I deserved it. In the back of my conscience I knew trying to get a relic for $90 was wrong - bones of a saint are priceless and the theca that contained the bone was worth maybe 5 bucks. When my head finally cleared, I had to confess that sin since it was clearly simony.

A lot of people on Ebay buy relics for steep prices and rationalize the sin of buying them by saying they are “rescuing the relics from neglect”. These people are only fooling themselves. If you want to pray before a relic, most Catholic churches (especially the older ones) have relics contained within the altar.

As I understand it, the Vicariate of Rome used to distribute relics to those Catholics who asked for them. This has since changed due to the rise in relic dealing from places like Ebay. Now if you want a relic from the Vicariate of Rome , they are typically given only to Catholic organizations and groups (the Vicariate doesn’t want the relics held in a private home) who submit a request that is endorsed by the local bishop. Religious orders also distribute them (especially when a saint is canonized) for saints of their order. I imagine the religious orders have their own rules regarding distribution.

As for me, I don’t intend to possess another relic since they are better suited to groups of Catholics and to parishes. I learned my lesson.

Yes. I have a small piece of a glove that St. Padre Pio was wore, and I also have a purported piece of a missal kissed by Our Lady at Garabandal, Spain in 1961attached to my Rosary.
 
I have something that no one can say they have. I have acquired a piece from the column of flaggelation. Very small but very powerful, it is where jesus was tied and beaten before he was crucified. It has a seal from the vatican on the back and with it i have a letter from the vatican written in italian around the 1400’s authenticating this piece with again the seal from the vatican. Its a long story how i acquired it but it has been used in many, many, exercisms and blessings. Outside of the remnants that exist in the st. Prasade church in rome, its my understanding that this piece is the only one in the world. I have the provenance of how it was acquired from the colonna family in 1974 and how it got into my hands. Very hard to believe but absolutely true. It came from a very well known priest who actually worked at the vatican for many years and has performed over 100 official and unofficial exercisms for the catholic church.

One of the things i do is auctions. In doing so, I received notice from my brother in law of a person who is a priest who needs to sell some things to acquire monies. I went to his house and spoke to him to find out his situation. I have never felt so emotional about a priest before but I knew he was someone special. This priest is older with medical conditions. He explained to me that he needed monies not only for himself but for an sick relative. His house was filled with things I would never imagine seeing in my lifetime. Most of which he acquired through gifts upon completing spirtual rituals. One of the things he had was the relic. He explained to me how he received the piece in 1974. The daughter of pricess Donatella Colonna had issues in her villa in Italy with ghosts because of WWll. Apparently, Germans were buried there. The father was called upon to do a spiritual ritual. In leau of this, the princess gave the father the relic. If you read about the history of the column of flaggellation, in 1223, someone from the colonna familly took the column from Jerusalem. I became friends with this priest and in the end he really wanted me to acquire the relic. I gave a charitable donation for it and gladdly excepted. He even gave me a hand written provenance with all the explanation and signed and notorized it. My name is at the bottom of it as the last true owner.
 
I have just recently obtained a 1st class Relic of St. Louis De Montfort!

It was issued from the vatican a few months ago and has its documents.
I know the full provenance of this relic . PM me if interested in hearing it.

I had a bunch that I inherited, they were originally collected by my grandfather’s brother who was a Bishop.

Two years ago, I was moving, and I put all of my religious things in a couple boxes and wrote on the boxes that they are valuables so they needed to be moved with extreme caution. Well the movers stole those boxes, plus a couple laptops and I don’t know what else. I wonder what they thought after they left, opened the boxes and just found it was full of religious items, like statues, images and relics. They probably expected stuff they could sell. I really hated losing those things, the police was no help and the management of the company did nothing (they say they asked the guys who were movers and they denied it – how stupid, of course they won’t admit it – plus I found out other people had complaints about theft from them too so the management should know better; he rudely hung up on us when we demanded they do something about it), but I can’t help but laugh thinking they risked themselves committing a felony for the sake of religious items that no one is gonna buy from them anyway. I’d also imagine they’d feel terrified finding out what they stole, because if theft is breaking a Commandment, imagine how furious God would be if you stole religious things.

Anyway, the main relic I had was one of the True Cross. There are about sixty others, some in sterling silver thecas. There were even a couple in sealed vials that hadn’t been placed in thecas yet. The burglars probably have no idea what they are. I hope they didn’t throw them in the trash.

Thankfully, I packed one of the relics separately – one of the Holy Face, a second class relic. One of the images of Jesus that is reputed to be the Veil of Veronica is kept at the Vatican; in the mid-1800s, when the Pope was in exile because of (I think) Napoleon, he ordered that the Veil be displayed at Saint Peter’s so people can pray before it to implore help for the Pope in peril. During the exposition, the face of Jesus on it appeared lifelike and in agony, and they rang the Basilica’s bells so everyone could be called to witness it. The Canons of Saint Peter came in and notarized the event, and artists were later called to draw the image, these copies then touched to the Veil and handed out as second class relics. That’s the only one of the relics I inherited that I still have.

If you’re curious, the name of the moving company was Mahalo Express, located in Hawaii. If you’re moving, don’t use them. And, no, this isn’t slander – look online and you’ll see other people complaining that this company stole too.

Wow, that is horrible. If that happened to me I would do one of two thing,

#1: Have a heart attack.
#2: Take the longsword down from my wall and lay siege to the company.

That is truly heartbreaking, because of this story, I will NEVER have my extensive Relic collection moved by movers.

Also, Can’t you sue the company?

Hahaha, yeah I really freaked out when I couldn’t find those boxes anywhere. It also had a relic of Saint Theresa of Lisieux, who happens to be my patron saint, and I was very attached to that relic.

Actually, I’m kind of looking at it as a blessing. I’m aware that people tend to go kind of relic-crazy; people have asked me for some of my relics and I know a lot of them are superstitious with things like this. I think perhaps I also was getting too attached to them; a holy as they are, they still are just material objects. I oddly feel happy they’re gone. It hurt losing them, but it felt like a penitential hurt that cleansed my heart from materialism, you know?

I’d sue, but I don’t have proof they took anything. I did file a police report and everything, but that doesn’t do much; two weeks later when we called the moving company to see if the police even contacted them yet, we found out they haven’t. Even if I sue, these were heirlooms and I can’t replace them. Sucks to be me.

Plus, I don’t know, but I’d guess the statute of limitations has expired on this already.

Funny, we had a lot of precious religious items, and almost all of them were lost when our family’s home was bombed during World War II. My dad tells me his uncle had big jeweled rings and a crosier and things like that. The only things left were the relics and a silver and ivory crucifix that my grandmother gave to my aunt. Since the theft, that crucifix was the only heirloom we have left from that bishop.
