I think the center of the country, lower 48 is actually in Kansas. They are mainly a Plains State. They were with the North in the Civil War and they are a state that grows a lot of grains I would say and in this are similar to a Midwest state.

I’m not sure I think whites or white males may have dropped just a very bit. I wasn’t one of them though. If someone only looked at my race, gender, and age they might be surprised I’ve voted for Obama twice. Well actually 3 times because I voted for him in the 08 primary when he was challenged by Hillary mainly because of his opposition to the Iraq war from the beginning. I could easily vote for Hillary in 16 were she to decide to run. But anyway I’m going now to buy some food for dinner. Without food stamps or governmemt assistance btw for anyone concerned. With minorities and women comprising of a majority within the House Democratic Caucus during the next session, Sawyer asked Boehner whether the Republican Party is too white, too old and too male. The speaker acknowledged that the GOP has work ahead to appeal to other demographics.

“What Republicans need to learn is how do we speak to all Americans. You know, not just the people who look like us and act like us, but how do we speak to all Americans,” Boehner said.

Kansas: “First of the Rectangle States.”

I’ve never understood why states which, looking at a national map, are clearly in the east, are called “midwest states,” while Kansas, geographically a midwest state, is called a “Plains State” if it is called anything at all.

It’s the subject of Thomas Frank’s book “What’s the Matter with Kansas.” He finds our propensity to vote conservative to be a pathological condition. After voting 60% for Romney this time around, I’m sure he’ll be ready to write another book. Unlike some small eastern states, it takes six hours to drive across it.
