Who is required to be reasonable here; the doctor, the patient, or both? Is it reasonable then for a patient to ask his doctor to violate his conscience?

I suppose the doctor will have to say something like this: “I can’t kill you; it goes against my conscience. But I can refer you to somebody who will kill you.”

I suppose referring them to Drs. Pepper and/or McGillicuddy are out?

Seriously, very disturbing. People wanting to commit suicide are supposed to get help from doctors to prevent them from taking their life, not assistance in doing so. A person considering that is normally considered, “a danger to themselves.” But, ask your doctor, and now it becomes, “death with dignity.”
