Mark 1:4
And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Luke 3:3

He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

**Fact: **John’s baptism saved… It removed sins!

God has only one son… If you ARE “IN the Body Of Jesus” then you will rise with Jesus! No man can die twice!

3000 people were “BAPTIZED” and the 3000 were “ADDED to the Body Of Jesus”!** Acts 2:40-41**

Baptism “ADDS” people to the Body of God’s only son!

FACT:If you are NOT in the Body of Jesus then you are NOT a Child of God!

It is just this simple!🙂

What is this, once-saved-always-saved proselytism? The Catechism explains:
977 Our Lord tied the forgiveness of sins to faith and Baptism: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved.” Baptism is the first and chief sacrament of forgiveness of sins because it unites us with Christ, who died for our sins and rose for our justification, so that “we too might walk in newness of life.”

978 "When we made our first profession of faith while receiving the holy Baptism that cleansed us, the forgiveness we received then was so full and complete that there remained in us absolutely nothing left to efface, neither original sin nor offenses committed by our own will, nor was there left any penalty to suffer in order to expiate them… Yet the grace of Baptism delivers no one from all the weakness of nature. On the contrary, we must still combat the movements of concupiscence that never cease leading us into evil "

979 In this battle against our inclination towards evil, who could be brave and watchful enough to escape every wound of sin? “If the Church has the power to forgive sins, then Baptism cannot be her only means of using the keys of the Kingdom of heaven received from Jesus Christ. the Church must be able to forgive all penitents their offenses, even if they should sin until the last moment of their lives.”

980 It is through the sacrament of Penance that the baptized can be reconciled with God and with the Church:

Penance has rightly been called by the holy Fathers “a laborious kind of baptism.” This sacrament of Penance is necessary for salvation for those who have fallen after Baptism, just as Baptism is necessary for salvation for those who have not yet been reborn.

No, we are all children of God.

John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance only . The Apostles Baptism , as received by Christ -forgives sin.

how do you know the specifics of johns baptism? were you there?

John’s baptisms were valid and forgave sin. If not, then nobody who has been baptized would be valid.

:If you are NOT in the Body of Jesus then you are NOT a Child of God! It is just this simple!🙂 Are you declaring that Saint Paul is wrong and you are right?

Acts 19:1-7

While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,” they replied. Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. There were about twelve men in all.

This is the danger of do-it-yourself Christianity. I fear you have been greatly mislead.

John’s baptisms were valid and forgave sin. If not, then nobody who has been baptized would be valid.
Paul knew the specifics. When he found believers who only had the baptism of John, Paul had them baptised in Christ and laid hands on them. See Acts 19:1-7.

John’s baptism was mikvah (actually tavillah) - the ritual bathing of Judaism. The Law proscribed “bathing” or “baptising” for numerous situations, to remove ritual uncleanness and to prepare/consecrate someone or something for service to the Lord. Converts to Judaism were baptised. Women were baptised after menses and after childbirth. The priests were baptised multiple times before and after offering sacrifice. The lambs were baptised before being sacrificed. (The word “bathe” in the OT, in the LLX is the same as the word translated “baptise” in the NT.) These “washings” are the equivalent of our priests washing their hands before they offer the Eucharistic sacrifice.

John’s baptism was what most Protestants think Christian baptism is - an outward symbol of an inward change of heart. But in reality it is that AND so much more.

Christian baptism is unrepeatable, because it is the door by which we enter into the Church. We are baptised into His death and raised in His life - His Body. That’s why Paul had those Christians in Acts 19 baptised even though they had received John’s baptism. It is the NT parallel not of mikvah but of circumcision (Deut. 30:6, Romans 2:29).

Hello Mark Thompson It is good to meet you…
I reply..“I never said once-saved-always-saved”!!!
I said you MUST be “Baptized to be IN the Body of Jesus!” I never said you can’t be removed from the body …“Did I”??

Baptism places people INTO Jesus… Communion KEEPS the person IN the Body!
John 6:55
For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.

Mark Thompson Do you understand the meaning of the word “REMAINS”?
I point out you can’t REMAIN IN if you are NOT “IN” in the first place!

To eat is to live…
FACT: All living things need to be nourished to live!
**Ephesians 5:29 **
After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they **feed **and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body.

Mark Thompson Question… “Does Jesus feed his body!?”
I point out the “Manna” Moses ate was NOT symbolic food, so why…
Why should Jesus be feeding his Church symbolic food…?
I point out… If Moses did not eat the manna he would have died…all must eat to live!
Any person who refused to eat the manna of Moses DIED!
&
Any person who rejects Communion also DIES, they are removed, they do NOT** remain** in the body!!

Did I say “Be baptized can’t die”?
I said…“Be baptized be ADDED to the Church”, the BODY of Jesus!🙂

John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance only . The Apostles Baptism , as received by Christ -forgives sin.
I reply with scriptures…
Mark 1:4

And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance** for the forgiveness of sins.**

Luke 3:3
He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Seatuck
A few questions… Did God give his authority to John to forgive sins?
Matthew 21:25
John’s baptism—where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?” They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t

Mark 11:30
John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin?** Tell me!”**

Seatuck Are you going to “Tell Me”?
If John’s Baptism was from God, then I say the scriptures do not lie…

Mark 1:4
And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance** for the forgiveness of sins.**

IF…
If you say; “John had NO Authority from heaven”… Then please supply the scriptures, that say.
John’s Baptism does NOT remove sins!
🙂

Paul knew the specifics. When he found believers who only had the baptism of John, Paul had them baptised in Christ and laid hands on them. See Acts 19:1-7.
po18guy It is good to meet you…
You said…
When he found believers who only had the baptism of John, Paul had them baptised in Christ and laid hands on them.
I reply: Yes it takes… >>WATER<<
and it takes >> SPIRIT<< to be reborn into the Body Of Jesus!
John 1:33
And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

po18guy
What do you read (above) “baptism of WATER and another of Spirit!”
The Groom does the “Spirit” baptism!
The Bride does the “Water Baptism”!

Bride & Groom…
po18guy It takes Two, Two, Two parents to form a Child… NOT just one!

NOTE…
**Acts 2:38 **
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ **for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift **of the Holy Spirit.

po18guy Do you see it??? **“Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins. **
The Church does the WATER part in the formation of God’s Children!
The Groom…God sends the “GIFT”!

NOTE:
John 4:1

Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John— 2 although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples.

po18guy Do you understand John 4:2 (above) FACT: The Groom does not do the WATER Part… NEVER, ever!
The water is always done by the Bride; The Catholic Church!
The Groom sends the “Gift”, the FIRE!

John 16:7

But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go,** I will send him to you.**

NHInsider It is a pleasure to meet you… “You have your head on straight”!!
You are right on the money!!

I want to add to what you said… MORE proofs about baptism!
Acts 8:34
The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?”
35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”
38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.
  1. Philip was PREACHING and TEACHING from the Old Testament, the importance of Baptism for salvation. Otherwise Verse’s 34, 35 and 36 make no sense, the Eunuch was excited to see WATER… can only be because, it was what they were talking about!
  2. It was the sight of WATER that triggered the Eunuch to say… “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” Proving “Water Baptism” was being discussed!
  3. The Eunuch wanted to be baptized right then… Proving it was NOT a “SYMBOLIC” action! If it was being taught as just a way of showing a person is saved… THEN…
Then the Eunuch would have waited until he got home to show family and friends he was saved!
  4. God wanted Philip to teach and preach and then “Baptize the Eunuch” otherwise why did God bring the two men together, then zap Philip away, only after the Water Baptism was completed!?
    🙂

Baptism is a sign of new birth with Christ. Baptism symbolically enacts how a person’s life is transformed by Christ: they are cleansed of their sins, they die and rise again, there is a new creation (2 Cor 5:17).

Children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. John 1:13

In other words, it is not the natural children who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. Romans 9:8
  1. Baptism includes children:
Salvation is not given for parents only, but for the parents and also for their whole household.Where does it say in the Bible not to baptize infants? The children in a family are part of the father and mother. When people are saved, it is God’s desire to save their family.
But Jesus has commanded infant baptism. In Matthew 28:19 He says, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 25:31-32 also uses the phrase “all nations” in this way. All nations are to be baptized, regardless of race, color, sex, age, class, or education. Jesus makes no exceptions. He doesn’t say, “Baptize all nations except . . …”

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."Acts 2:38-39

Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. John 8:31

And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. Matthew 18:5

Did not you claim that the baptism of John the Baptist forgave sins? It was not a Christian baptism, but remained a part of the Old Covenant. If you are Catholic, on a Catholic site speaking to baptized Catholics, I’m afraid I miss your point. Would not your point be better addressed to some fundamentalists, who do not baptize?

No, we are all children of God.
Actually, no we are not, he is quite right. This was something covered by an excellent Christology course I recently finished. The purpose of the Incarnation was that we may partake in the Divine Nature, and so restore our divine sonship in union with Christ that was lost in the Fall. Since we are creaturely, our sonship must by it’s very nature be of a spiritual nature. How can we be children of God if our covenantal relationship with God through baptism in Christ is the very thing that makes us Children of God?

As a side note, this also makes sense in line with covenant theology, since in ancient belief if you were not in a covenant with God, you were “in the void,” so to speak.

FACT: Both baptisms removes Sins… John’s and the Bride’s!!

My Point: If you are Protestant who rejects baptism, as just symbolic… then you are forced to reject Scriptures.
If you are Catholic… When you talk to your Protestant friends, you will be able to “POINT” to my point!

My point is “The Bride baptizes with water”; To have your sins removed, same as John’s!
The Groom Baptizes with the Holy Spirit, for you to receive
the Gift
!
po18guy Two, two, two baptism in the new testament… NOT JUST ONE!

Nathan Wagar It is good to meet you…
I want to add to your Christology course.
NOTE:
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the** Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.**

Nathan Wagar The waters were made “HOLY” by the Holy Spirit… thus all that COMES out of the waters will also be made 'Holy"!
The Earth and all of creation came out of the Holy Water’s thus… ALL Of creation is made holy!
Adam was created HOLY because he was formed from the “HOLY Earth”!
God’s Spirit in Adam gave Adam LIFE! Adam was formed from “Earth & Spirit”!

Jesus is a second Adam… Jesus must be equal to the first so he ALSO must be formed from “Earth & Spirit”!
The Bride takes the “Dust Of The Earth” and re-FORMS it into a new form, the Form of Jesus! She reforms the “Dust Of The Earth” with the waters of Baptism!!! Jesus’s body is thusly formed from EARTH Also!
**The Groom **sends the “Holy Spirit” to give true life!
The Body of the second Adam Jesus, is formed from Earth & Spirit!
It is re-formed by the waters of Baptism!
**John 3:5 **
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.

Jesus is equal to Adam but; Jesus is without sin… The Holy Water’s of Baptism removed the sins!
The Catholic has two, two, two parents, not just one!
The Bride is my mother… she re-FORMED me!
The Groom is my father… He sent the Gift of LIFE, the Holy Spirit!
🙂

Be careful here! John’s baptism applied only to Jews of the old covenant. That is why Paul had believers Sacramentally baptized into the New Covenant, even though they had already been baptized by John. New Covenant, new Baptism.
You miss the point.
Does not matter if it is John’s or the Brides… BOTH remove sins!
Paul wanted them to receive the GIFT!
The Groom had not yet sent the GIFT!
They had their sins removed by the waters of Baptism, all they needed was the GIFT, the Holy Spirit!

Look here is the reverse…
Acts 10:44 **
While Peter was still speaking these words
, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. **
45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that** the gift** of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles.
46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.

Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the **way of their being baptized with water. **They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”
48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

po18guy Do you see it… “They RECEIVED the** Gift!**” But they were NOT baptized with water yet!
Peter ordered with the AUTHORITY of God…(Jesus) that they be baptized now with water…
Peter had them added them into the Body of Jesus by baptism of Water!
&
Paul
added the people to the BODY: by asking God to send the
Gift
! These people had been washed of their sins, all they needed was the GIFT!

po18guy it takes two baptisms to be,** added to the Body of Jesus.**
Baptism of Water, by the BRIDE!
And the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, by the GROOM!

Acts 2:40
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand **were added **to their number that day.

po18guy Do you see it??
Three Thousand were **“ADDED” **to the Body of Jesus by Baptism!

sdtouchton “The Bride baptizes with water”; To have your sins removed, same as John’s!
The Groom Baptizes with the Holy Spirit, for you to receive the Gift!
sdtouchton
NOTE: Two, two, two baptism’s in the new testament… NOT JUST ONE!
John 1:33
And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

Do you see it?
The Groom baptizes with the Holy Spirit!
The Bride baptizes with Water. to remove sins!
sdtouchton The Catholic has two, two, two parents not just one!
sdtouchton It takes two parents to form a child. (just in case you did not know)😉

IF… If you are Protestant I ask: "You claim God as your father, then WHO possibly can be your mother? Even Jesus had a mother!
🙂
D-R Bible, Haydock Commentary:

Mark 1:4

Ver. 4. For the remission of sins. Some commentators think from this that the baptism of John remitted sins, though he says in another place, I baptize you with water, but there has stood one amongst you, who will baptize you with water and the Holy Ghost, to shew that he did not baptize with the Holy Ghost, without which there is no remission of sin. This apparent difficulty will be easily reconciled, if we refer this expression to the word penance, and not baptism; so that by penance their sins were to be washed away, and there were baptized to shew their detestation of their former life. (Jansenius, Concord. Evang.)
