So my girlfriend and her college prolife group were putting flyers on dining hall tables (when the dining hall was closed). There happened to also be Gay Pride Week flyers on the tables with the schedule of their events. She scooped them all up and put them in her bag.

Now some other girl thinks that was wrong and they should put them back. Was removing gay pride flyers a morally wrong thing to do?

(my gf is of course sticking to her guns because they promote sin and occasion to sin and she has even demonstrated that these flyers were technically violating some poster regulation the way they were displayed anyway, regardless of morality)

How would you feel if material containing Catholic information/ group meeting of Catholics etc. was swiped from a table because someone didn’t agree with the catholic church? Is stealing not a sin?

i agree, it is stealing.

if something needed to be done, then she should have found the legitimate way to do it. if they had broken some regulation then she should have used those means.

she is just promoting disrespect for Catholics. she really didn’t do anything except lash out at them. this is the kind of behavior people mean when they call Catholics bigots and hypocrits. she rationalized her hateful behavior saying they promote sin, etc. but that doesn’t change what she did. the fact that she stole the material is just one reason it is wrong.

if she wants someone to change him/herself into what she believes, she needs to engender respect. that is not possible when one makes it clear that the respect will never be mutual. if she respected them as persons, then she would have treated them as such. does “Do unto others…” ring a bell?

a good disciple prevents the sins of others by bringing about conversion, not by militant vigilanteism. if you consider the damage do to backlash against her own cause, she even damaged her own mission.

it is just senseless, if you ask me. this is just an example of holier-than-thou hatred that few Catholics are willing to confront in themselves.

We stand a much better chance of converting people if we do it with extreme love. I don’t mean being a doormat, but being Christ to them.

It’s really hard, I know, to let them have their flyers. You have to grit your teeth and let people decide on their own which way to go. It is much more than the other side is going to do. Be a beacon of light. There will be those who will notice it, maybe not now but later when they have a chance to think about it.

God bless your girlfriend’s efforts. Just tell her to let go. Let God run this program. 🙂

Yeah, she actually went to ask a priest today so I figured I’d post it here and see what ya’ll thought. She’s the kind who really wants to do all she can.

Sounds like you have a winner!! 👍

so the priest condoned this action? Umm and explain to me how this is right. A winner? or a theif? You tell me

Her intentions were, from the looks of things, good. However, I don’t think what she did was right. I certainly wouldn’t want someone taking flyers about Catholicism down because they didn’t believe it was right. No conversions are going to take place that way. If one flyer is going to change someone’s beliefs, they never had them begin with. Treat others how you would want to be treated.

She should have taken one, then taken it to a campus office, since the flyer was breaking a rule. Maybe that way the group might not be allowed to put out any more flyers.

Interesting:hmmm: Would it have been wrong if it were arian nation material trying to preach seperation or extermination?

SusanL,

Can you be converted to homosexuality? Im curious. Should we let Catholics have their flyers? Snatch them away and hope we can bring them out of Catholicism with love, of course.

Mike

Do you know if the flyer was breaking a rule? Do you know the college or the situation?

P.S. Is your girlfriend hot?
Nike,

Right on dude! Asking if his girlfriend is hot is not very “christian” is it now??

Ever heard of the first ammendment? I don’t condone anyone teaching hate or intolerance for any group, but yes they have evey right to voice their opinions. As do the catholics and gays. Would you steal their flyers? I wouldn’t. Hate and religious belief is a learned behavior. Homosexuality is not. Don’t believe me? Ask any gay person… you may learn something!

In the original post, between the parenthesis (sp?), it said something about a technical violation.

Concur, may not like what they have to say, but they do have the freedom to say it. Just need to follow rules, etc.

I presented an example so do not presume you know what I would do.But you noticed I said seperation or extermination material,so where is the line?Furthermore my best friend is a celibate gay whose life almost ended in suicide because of his "lifestyle"years ago,so in a very real way it is like giving a loaded gun to a suicidal person:nope:

G315,

All through college I have ripped down posters of naked vile filth on the walls and tables by trashy sodomite groups like the ones on the posters your gf took off the tables. People have to stand up in situations like this, because you know what, they ARE treating the average joe Christian like a doormat, they always tear down Christian posters while their own sit there alone on the wall. You know how much paper they waste on those posters? They have no problem wasting because the average joe Christian is stuck with extra fees on his tuition bill to set aside money for campus clubs, and in the light of “fairness” trash clubs like those go around tearing other groups stuff down and posting their own. If you knew where I went to college you would be shocked, I have seen ENTIRE WALLS with the same poster posted over and over eachother, and this is one of those tree hugger schools to top it off, but they dont make the connection. Whats this compassion stuff? Or this stealing stuff? Those guys just laugh. If you dont want to step in there is nothing wrong with you, but dont go trashing people who are in effect helping you.

Let’s take it a step further. Say these flyers had pictures of bestiality - leave them there or dispose of them? I maintain if the material is offensive it should be removed.
